Bought an Asus P5K-E MOBO and a new CPU, memory etc. Put the beast together but not getting any audio. The drivers are ok in Vista and I can see media player playing tunes etc...I also cannot get my headphones to work via the front I/O panel on my case. If I got the connections wrong on the MOBO would this disable to speaker sound aswell as headphone ones. I've followed the ASUS manual but I must have done something wrong??? There is an HD audio piccie and Legacy Audio piccie. I followed the Legacy one. I've plugged the lime green cable into the lime green socket at the back but still no sound. If I disconnect all connections from the MOBO then should I get external sound via speakers no matter what ?? Please help.

Just noticed in device manager that the sound driver is Soundmax Integrated Digital HD audio if that helps??

Strange thing happened. I rebooted and it works now. If I choose AC97 legacy audio in the BIOS it works and if I choose HD Audio then it works. The confusion is what should I be using? I've got a 2 speaker + sub setup and use my headphones too when I have to....

That means do I have the jumpers on the MOBO correct or not??
