Am I right in thinking that the latest batch of post TagMclaren Audiolab equipment specifically the 8000S and 8000CD are only available in silver? I know that prior to the TagMclaren takeover black was all the rage. Can anyone shed some light onto this? My friend is looking to make a purchase but dislikes silver. It seems a shame to bypass these great systems on asthetics alone.

Just found a site offering black, so all is good in the world once again

The black version is a stripped-down pile o' crap compared to the original silver 8000CD.

Many people on avforums reckon that the late edition black 8000s amps sound better than the new post-tag silver editions.

Possibly the amps do.

But I know for a fact that the black CD player is a budget model and doesn't contain the higher quality DAC as the silver one ;)

but the new black 8000cd will be the same as the new silver one wont it ?
Not quite as simple as yes or no.

If it is the standard 8000CD in black then it will be fine, but if it's the cheaper budget version (also black) then it will have lesser quality, cheaper hardware and the difference in sound (particularly detail) is noticable. It (budget model black) had a slaughtering review from a few magazines a while back.

To be honest I wanted a black one, but for that little extra the silver would completely kill it. So you're better off going silver :)
