AUNE T1 (MK1 + MK2) discussion

It's better than stock but the rocket is better again.

I will need to try it with the HD600 tbh, tested with the X1.

TBH I felt it really suited the X1, the bass wasn't overpowering.

what is the treble like with the rocket? I don't want anything that's going to push the K702's into sibilance.

I think the Siemens has the most treble out of the lot but it's hard to compare until I test with HD600's. The fidelio X1 has a V shape sound so the treble is already quite high.

Going to bed i'll test some more tomorrow night after work.

is the store - has many many tubes for sale

I have not tested mine yet but here they are

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181391227993?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

only 4 available that's why I don't want to sell my spare, hardly any left.

If you want to do this again with other tubes I could be interested in these

or these

they are for 4 tubes and roughly £30-£40 for them so £8-£10 each.

we could do a 4 way split if we have another tube user on here or someone can keep 2

they have so many tubes though we could be here all day looking at which ones to buy

annual eye check? it's every 2 years up here in scotland, well if you want a free eye check that is. you can have as many as you like but you only get one for free every 2 years.

luckily i'm blessed with perfect vision, eye health is perfect and better than 20/20 on my recent check.

i'm currently storing my tubes in a small cardboard box. any of you know of any cheap storage solution? something padded and able to keep them secure in place preferably.

i'll need to think about it and see what i can find when i'm out and about.

i was thinking possibly baby socks? placing one tube inside a tiny sock and then inside a small cardboard box.

No problem just going to order a pair then.

Is this the correct Siemens ECC88?

linky

yeah that's the siemens I bought, are you copying my tube buys? lol

tbh i think i'm done with tube rolling unless you guys wanted to go for those other more expensive Ukrainian ones and split the costs, getting too expensive now.

so i have that siemens (better version of the stock one very neutral) and 3 rockets of which one is an 80 from mike and two are 78 from ukraine.

i also have the stock one too so I have 5 tubes altogether now, no need for me to buy more tbh, the rockets for me are simply sublime well worth having a spare so IMO it's better you guys are buying separately especially with their not being many left.

the siemens suits the fidelio X1 better it seems to tighten it up, but the rocket feels a lot more lively and fun so i could easily switch between the two depending on my mood.

I bought a pair last night, they were down to 2 pairs left at that point but they seem to have "magicked" up some more stock in the mean time - funny that :D

damn ukrainians lol

i've still not tested my rockets from there, hopefully tomorrow. i'm done with tubes have to stop myself before it gets out of hand.

as for the headphone amp on the AUNE T1 I have heard that is the weakest part of the the 2 (DAC/AMP) from all your research would it be worth using this as a USB DAC only and then feeding into say an O2 amp which is £70-£80?

no way i would buy one atm but possibly thinking of that as an upgrade path in the future or a little dot or something (but that means more tube madness).

I don't think the amp's ability to drive headphones is a weakness, it doesn't have any problem driving these K702's (same as Q701). Why I think they say it's the weakest link is that it's basically a CMOY amp and there are more elegant solutions out there such as the O2 (better design) and the Magni (discrete components) / Vali (tube amp). As to whether the competition actually sounds any better is a lot more subjective because there are many who still prefer the sound of a good CMOY over the competition.

I have been toying with the idea of eventually getting a Little Dot MkII and feeding it from the T1's RCA outputs but I'm not yet convinced I will see any appreciable improvement in the sound quality.

yeah your most likely right tbh.

like i say everything i have read points to this being one of the best if not the best DAC/AMP for under $200.

headfonia say it's better than the M and M stack. probably no point in me ever upgrading from this tbh, it's absolutely amazing for the money and after this the law of diminishing returns kicks in quite badly.

i may however use the RCA out as a source to active speakers rather than as a source for a dedicated headphone amp.

Voskhod Rockets arrived this morning.
Cleaned the oxidation off the pins
Wiggled it into the T1 and fired it up
Donned K702's
Selected "Come with me now" by Kongos
Hit play
Commenced grinning :)

The music feels a bit more intimate, so it obviously has an effect on soundstage and it does sound slightly warmer (small amount of upper bass and lower middle boost). The differences are not initially obvious, at least to me but they are there and become more apparent with a bit more switching with the EH 6902. With the K702 having a big soundstage to start with I'm not going to miss a little and the Rocket does sound nice and musical, I think it's staying. :D

How did you clean them?

Vinegar and a baby wipe?

Need a longer usb cable. Is it a special one or something as i tried an extension but that wouldnt work?

I wouldn't extend the USB but by an extension for your headphone instead, best to keep the USB as short as possible.

USB degrades over distance quite badly or something like that (the timings get messed up and errors are produced).

Use the stock USB cable only into the back of a PC.

Buy a monoprice, kenable or kabeldirekt extension lead for your headphones

Well I want the amp at the other end of my desk to my tower. It reaches now but is abit tight. Only needs to be say 50cm longer than now. Would that really make any difference?

I don't know but if you were to buy another USB cable make sure it's a decent one. Not too expensive but not a cheap £1 one either, just a decent enough cheap one.

Preferably though stick with the stock cable, re-arrange the desk/setup and use a longer headphone cable is best IMO.

I don't know who makes decent cheap USB cables, so you will need to do your own research there, I'm sure kenable do them I imagine.
