Austin track layout unveiled (for 2012 season)

Does anyone know if there will be any races on the track before the GP?

If not then I can see the tyre wear being mad, just like Korea's first outing. It is not like there will even be GP2 or GP3 there to lay some extra rubber.

Pretty sure that the F1 event will be the first race weekend to be held there. Obviously there'll be some testing and PR events, but nothing like a GP weekend to get some rubber laid down.

im suprised it isnt a giant oval if its in the u.s,they dont like bends:D

Watkins Glen. Sears Point Raceway. Laguna Seca. Sebring. Road America. Mid-Ohio. Virginia International. Baltimore Street Circuit. Long Beach. Portland. Lime Rock Park. Road Atlanta. Miller Park. Barber Motorsports Park.

Try again.

***edit***

Actually, I'm mildly disappointed in myself for only coming up with fourteen tracks that turn left as well as right. I suppose if I start naming all the street circuits, and ovals with infield addons I'll be here all day though....

Why hasn't F1 gone to one of these instead of building a new potentially awful new one? Is it simply an issue of safety and none of the tracks wanting to change run-offs and what not? From the experience of the american tracks I have from Forza they're not like the tame tilke designs.

Haha. I was gonna say beware, JRS will be here in a sec, but he's already here :D

Ah, how well you know me dear boy...:p

well you know how easily amused the yanks are,f1 and america just dont mix

They used to be interested. Then it got tedious. Now that things have changed for the better, it might find an audience once again.

Well....no, actually. Yes, the IndyCar guys go to some of those tracks. But there's also the American Le Mans Series, the Rolex Sports Car Championship, the World Touring Cars, and then there's the bikes and stuff like Formula D. Not forgetting, of course, the true pinnacle of motorsport - the 24 Hours of LeMons :D

Pass. Could be that the circuit owners/promoters wouldn't want to pay the fees, could be a safety thing (which is nuts, given the mildly litigious nature of the USA), could just be that no-one 'in power' has any imagination whatsoever. Take your pick.

I seriously doubt any of the IndyCar street tracks would meet F1 safety standards. Some of the road courses might, like Laguna Seca, but would they have the infrastructure to support an F1 race?

I believe Laguna Seca is only a 'Category 2' circuit which means F1 can't run there. Road America would need wholesale remodelling to introduce proper run off areas which at some corners is easy enough but on others it can't be done for various reasons so that's a no-go. I think the circuit is Longer than Spa too and might even be too long under the current regulations.

The others? Not up to scratch, some by a long way and even with an Indycar produce relatively dull races.

I guess you didn't actually watch any of the races this season. Then again, this forum is full of F1 fanboys, so go figure.

This. If some still aren't willing to pay the tiny Indycar sanctioning fee then why would they pay the multi-millions needed for F1?

I did watch some of the races, most of which were won on fuel strategy rather than which car no driver were the fastest. Some of the courses were single line processions decided by pit and fuel strategy and therefore to the average fan dull in the extreme.
