Sigh.... no I didn't do the Northern Territory which I'm dissapointed about. Reason being when she got to Australia a month or so before me my girlfriend travelled down from Darwin so she'd already done it and it was a LONG way to go for her to see something she had already seen so we left it off.

Next trip to Aus we'll start from Cairns, pick up a car, head through Outback Queensland to Alice Springs, up to Broome and around to Perth :)

Get your self a Landcruiser for that trip. And if you want one that has all the nice soft bits on the inside then get a Prado
If its all out Ruggedness then get a Landcruser 70 series.
Either way make sure you get a 4x4 so you can go off road while in the out back and national parks.

BTW New Zealanders really have a painfull painfull Accent.:(

Also im ashamed to say you have been to more of Australia then me:o:(

No way I want another Falcon, its all sealed roads from what I can see :p

Um not quite all sealed roads up here.
Apart from towns we have 4 main roads that are sealed and 3 of them take you out of the NT (Stuart Highway to Adelaide, Victoria Highway to WA and another i forget the name of that takes you to Queensland)
You really do need a 4x4 up here if you want to make the best of it.
Lichfield National Park is now almost a complete bitumen circuit barring 30km of dirt. There are some good trails off it though that need a 4x4
Kakadu National Park is all dirt apart from the 2 roads that pass through it.

Granted you can do much of it in a regular car but you have to take it slowly, and where is the fun in that!
Places like Jim Jim Falls is 4wd access only

jim jim falls is awesome. we stayed a few days in kakadu national park, lovely place :)

when we took the nissan patrol back to hertz we told them where we went and they said, "yeh, you're not allowed to do that with our cars.." :D

Great write up fella

What were your thoughts of Melbourne as a city? Got an opportunity to move over there to work & currently weighing up my options.

I loved Melbourne. Big city yet very compact, you can walk around the entire CBD and there is a fantastic tram system as well. Great place and some stunning scenery within a drive.

I've got to go and buy some tyres then I will go home and write part 2 :p
