Australian Open 2022

I do wonder why the womens majors aren't best of 5 for a at least the semis and final. As a player and spectator I do prefer a longer more strategic game.

Best of three as they said in the commentary on the mens game the other day, it so variable and much easier to get an upset. The matches can be over so quickly, so also less value for money for the crowd.

Since prize money is equal now in most places (not that the pay is for minutes on court) it doesn't make sense to me. The only thing I think of is the stress on the bodies, but it's would only be for 2 matches a major (semi and final). My understanding is that the WTA has voted in favour of it before, and the AO tried to push it through without any dialogue in the past, but other majors haven't been interested.

Anyway, well played form Barty. Dominated throughout the tournament.

The looping forehand could be a game change for Nadal, used it really well for the break in that game.

Edit: Two massive errors in that game to hand the break back, Nadal has to win this set to stand a chance imo.

That’s it for me, Medvedev’s got the mentality of a hitman and I can’t see him losing control of this now. Nadal’s not served well enough and made too many unforced errors but that’s just a result of the pressure coming from the other side of the net.

One thing I have noticed throughout the tournament is the amount of spectators who are oblivious to what's going on. Taking ages to get to seats etc and not listening to the umpires.
