Authorised reseller of steam keys?

Hey guys,

Im hoping one of you could clarify whether or not the website G2A.com is an authorised reseller of steam keys. (I apologise if this breaks any forum rules on listing other websites (im unsure basically so sorry if it is)).

The reason why im actually asking this is because the keys are dirt cheap so naturally you would think its illegal right?

But then they have a load of partners listed on their site, some of those are respected businesses. So sure they could just be linking to other businesses to make out they are legit, if they are doing so without permission though thats a big problem.

Also they offer some sort of shield thing for 1 euro more and apparantly it guarantees a legit copy.

Anyone had any experience with this site or can vouch for it being legit?

Thanks in advance!

There is a very good reason for cheap keys.

People bet skins, they get lots more skins and sell them on the market.

They now have 100's of £ in the good old steam wallet... But this money is pointless as you cannot withdraw it.

So because lots of people buy lots of keys they buy keys at full price with steam wallet money, they then sell to buyers for cheaper than steam (They have to sell cheaper else people wouldn't buy them, they would just buy them ingame instead)

Now they have turned there 'virtual money' into realy money.

So yes you are fine to buy from them.

They're not authorized resellers.

I personally won't use them now, like the Kinguin sale now, I'd easily sink like 30 quid for 4 games or whatnot, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

But others have used them fine, the odd time or two I've used them it's been fine, but that was like one time in 2013 and one time in 2014.

So is there an actual risk in buying these games?

They are selling games like Mortal Kombat X pretty damn cheap compared to steam is all.

Perfectly fine. They buy masses amount of games at a discount and then sell them on at a profit but also at a cheaper price to us.

Just be aware of Steams region locking.

And would the shield option actually protect against this?

Not really.
The shield option just highlights how shady it is.

"Please pay more to guarantee we're not selling you a dodgy key"
Legit.

There's been a handful of games that have been revoked from some reason or another.

I want Shadow Of Mordor and a few other titles, but I'll just wait till I can get a 10 pound sale from Amazon/Steam/Greenmangaming etc.

Legit.

Yea this is what im thinking. However theres a huge difference between buying a game for £39.99 and £20.25.

I dont know what to do lol

Having said that. My gut instinct says its not legit. Therefore ill stick with steam.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Don't get me wrong, you could use it and have a perfectly fine experience.
But with Publishers getting worse, Steam tightening region restrictions.
I wouldn't risk it anymore.

All G2A shield does is allow you to claim another key if the one they supply you with doesn't work.

Like most key websites their primary way of obtaining keys is by exploiting currency conversion rates, you'll find that most of these companies are based in Poland.

I'll admit I've used them a few times for games that are under the radar, but for major upcoming releases I'd stay away. If you do take the risk don't be too surprised if your key ends up being disabled.

And by the replies in this thread it looks like Ubisofts shady revoking tactics and Steams new region threats have worked!

I bought Dying Light from CdKeys.com, worked without issue.
I buy the majority of my games through G2A and Kinguin and I've never had a key revoked.

I don't know, I stopped buying well before any of this happened, as I'm far too paranoid as a person. Though I'm more concerned about where the money goes (Or where it doesn't go, should I say). In an ideal world, CD key sellers like this wouldn't exist, we'd just have lower priced games throughout.

But as far as the response to the title goes, it's a "No" there's no semantics about it, they're not authorized clear and simple.

Also, you probably wouldn't know if you've had a serial revoked. I've got like over 480 games on Steam, and my library is always changing (Be that free weekends etc) and at one point I actually kept a log, and sometimes the game list went lower when it shouldn't etc.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Me being a goody two shoes have decided to air on the side of caution and go with announced, legit vendors.

Therefore I now have anothe question!

I have found the two games im looking to buy (MK X and GTA V) are on sale for a lot less on amazon and game (sorry again if im not allowed to say this!). Now im more than happy to go with those but I would far rather my game be on my steam library than not.

Therefore the question is, if I buy a boxed game from a legit retailer will I be able to apply the cd key and have full support as you would normally from steam?

Or do I simply need to buy it from steam or get a steam key from a legit steam key retailer?

Thanks again :)

If steam were so against resellers then wouldn't they stop G2A and Kinguin from sponsoring CSGO teams at big live events? Kinda funny seeing valve games played on the biggest stage with the names of steams biggest rivals plastered everywhere. WOuld be kinda hypocritical to allow people to discover G2A etc whilst watching a valve games, and then have steam later restrict/ban your account for using them...

Check the description/requirements etc and it should say what it will use. In the case of GTA V, I think you can only get the Steam version direct from Steam. All other copies like retail will be codes to activate on Rockstar's own client (the Social Club) only. Note: even the Steam version will run through the Social Club, so it's up to you whether the extra money to get it through Steam is worth it. Mortal Kombat should be through Steam only. It's only really EA and Ubisoft games that you have to look out for these days (as they use their own clients mostly).

As for resellers, they buy in bulk from say cheap European countries and sell to where the price is higher so it's obviously pretty shady. I don't risk it anymore, Steam and publishers are starting to really clamp down.

Thanks again for the feedback. I can see that GTA 5 is available as a hard copy or as a digital copy (digital costs a couple of pence more strangely) yet MKX is only hard copy. Would this mean that I can put the code in the case into steam for MKX and get routine updates and such via steam?
