doubt it as its generally a nurse consultant specialised in the field and a psychologist that does the diagnosis.I've often wondered if people with low confidence or low self esteem could be mistaken for people with Autism as both can give similar results of being socially awkward or shy, but I think that there's a little more to it than that

Reading this thread I think I've come up with a simple way to tell real autism and self-diagnosed autism.
real: You are unaware you're being socially awkward/doing something unacceptable and you don't understand why, even afterwards when told about.
self-diagnosed/not real: you know you're doing it/can look back and see you've done it and why you're wrong, but still carry on doing it.
xordium and others with experience agree?
