I had not come across this until recently and to many this is probably old news but after watching this video...

...I could not believe that devs put aim assisting into games even if there is not an option to disable it should the player wish to.

I can 'kind of' understand if a dev enables aim assist by default as that is the way they believe the game should be experienced by the player but to not offer the option to disable it is just disgusting. Has gaming really got to the point where devs think we are a bunch of fumbling, bumbling todlers that need to be spoon fed aiming?!?

EDIT: Dont get me wrong, if you choose to enable aim assist to enjoy a game then thats fine, but to enforce it without a choice...WTF?!?

Umm you think this is Halo only...EVERY SINGLE FPS CONSOLE GAME has an exact same system.

If you didn't have this with controller based input you would never hit anything without point and click with a mouse.

Its been the norm for well over a decade now.

I genuinely never knew that, most likely as Im predominately a PC gamer and I always disable aim assist either in options - if offered - or with a mod/tweak.

I never knew it was applied to games 'as standard' and the player has no say in it being enabled or disabled.

So, if I was to play an older fps game on a console, would aim assisting still be present or did older titles not use it? Surely that would mean I'd be really terrible at aiming but if that was the case, these games would be 'unplayable' if assisting is of great need to aim and aim accurately.

Most games use it, even older titles. You might find a few that or give you the option to switch off completely, but it's pretty much standard. Only recent games I can think that don't have it are Killzone Shadowfall and Splatoon.

Shadowfall it's just not in the mp at all.
Splatoon is missing it, but has gyro control.

Yep, like every single Call of Duty game, why you think they got, popular, cause they use such an aggressive autoaim system.

Its not about having a say weather you would turn it off or not, on console its a out everyone playing with the exact same parameters as everyone else.

You wouldn't hit a thing down range with tow analogue thumb sticks, it would be a disaster.

Some game's allow the player to disable it like Battlefield 4 but tbh with it turned off i find it much harder to hit things.

The only issue i have with it is the snap too aiming with certain gun's, on BF4 for instance shotguns and snap too are a real pain.

It is necessary with most console fps. The main problem with console controllers is the dead zone around the middle. I suppose that is necessary to make the controllers cheap to build and robust.

Was meant to say "not the norm on killzone shadwfall"

It is good fps just requires more skill to aim. ;)

If it had came out before any FPS game thats better than it then I guess you would have a point, anything after Goldeneye on the N64 is better is that games issue :p

Given the content of this fred its a little ironic that the only decent Killzone game in the series history is on the Vita and it has so much aim assist the game could almost play itself ;)

just saying in the halo thread that i keep getting my aim messed up when someone runs past the guy that i am intending to shoot, the crosshair automatically locks to the guy that runs past and i die :D

I think the problem is if you decide to play multiplayer without aim assist in general servers you're at such a disadvantage without it.

I reckon games should have aim assist only servers and free aim. Similar to GTA Online (edit: I'm sure Max Payne 3 had a similar playlist), I'm sure the free aim servers will be less populated but I bet the community on those servers would be better.

Another edit: wow I just watched that video, that is absolutely awful!

FPS don't work well on consoles never have done.

what have consoles go to do with it ?

Its only the input method that's less accurate. Consoles are just a PC underneath ...

Its the norm for good FPS games on consoles...

Its the norm for COD.

Battlefield had aim assist, but nothing like this. It helped nudge you in the right direction, but the assist on battlefield never meant you had bendy bullets that would hit a completely different place compared to where you were aiming.

Yes it does, it uses magnetic pulling for auto aim, shoot into a group of three people and you wont get a kill but you get three assist.

Same system they all use only to varying degrees.
Destiny, all COD, Halos, BF's and bad company.
