Auto-Run doesn't run...?

I tried yesterday to load HLife Orange Box, and came across a couple of problems;

1) When I put the DVD in the drive, it doesn't auto-run; it just briefly starts then stops and then sits there permanently doing nothing. I've got XPpro/SP2, where PRECISELY do I set the CD/DVD drive to autorun for a data-disk (I can see options for actions to take for photo/music CD/DVD's etc but not one for "always autorun".) HELP!!!

2) Having at least got the steam software and account sorted out ok, I then can't get Steam to recognise that there's a DVD in the drive and it defaults to an internet download of the games - gigabytes of data which is no use when I already have perfectly good DVD's that for some reason aren't being recognised. Any suggestions???

Thanks as always...

My guess, would be an anti-virus/spyware application stopping it, perhaps it uses a web base pop up, or uses an IE type of window for it?

What happens if you right click the drive after the CD has spun up and you click Auto Play? Does it work if you try it with the virus / spyware apps turned off?

Have you tried removing and re-adding the device from device manager? Does the drive read the disks at all?

The drive reads the disk fine in as much as it list out the contents.
