I've just spotted something being automatically downloaded as an automatic update on my PC. The usual yellow shield appeared and something was downloaded.

I have autoupdating set to tell me stuff is available but not to download it without my say-so.

I've just looked at installed updates and nothing shows as being installed today.

Is there any way I can find out what has just been downloaded? I don't like stuff being put on my PC if I don't know what it is - that's why I have autoupdating set that way.

Click the icon -> Click custom install -> Click next at the bottom.

This will show you what updates are waiting to be installed.

"C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate" are where updates that have been downloaded are stored. This is a hidden folder, so make sure you can see hidden files/folders.

Clicking on the icon does nothing. Click, doubleclick, right-click...nothing.

It turned out to be .net framework 2.1 (after a while, the "updates are ready to install" box appeared and I could look at custom installation that way).

It's irritating that it downloaded without my permission, despite my update settings.
