I can scale an image but its not exactly what i want.

I want to scale a image buy selecting 2 points and making those 2 points a certain width so i can get the appropriate length and scale of my picture.

Im making a 3d model of my kart track and i want it to be to scale. Google earth is out of date and i have a image of the layout of the track. Im planning on putting that into autocad and creating a spline all the way around the center of the track then sweeping it with a 7.5m line (width of the track).

any help will be appreciated.
Marc

My advice would be;
Import the image as a PDF underlay into the model space.
Since you know the width of the track is 7.5m even all the way around (is this correct?) you can adjust the size of the image within model space until the road width fits 7.5m within the program.
Once the original image is scaled correctly it's just a case of tracing over it.
Do the scaling for print in the paper space.

Is this a raster image that you want to scale up in CAD, so you can trace over it? (edit: just read your post... yes it is:))

Easiest way to do this is the align tool. Reference in your image, and draw a line somewhere in your drawing which is the required dimension. (i.e. the width of the track)

Then, select the image, type 'align', pick the base point on the drawing and then the equivalent point on the line, then the second point on the drawing, and second point on the line. It will ask you if you want to scale it so hit yes, and you should be done.

Give me a shot if that makes no sense and I'll actually open up autocad and see if I got it right..!

That sounds about right from what I can remember.

worked! got it wrong first time as i didnt have snap on and it came out very weird. cheers! i asked on several autocad forums but iv still not got one reply never mind answer.
thank you very much!

by any chance is there a button that automaticly places a spline around where you want ? :D i have a white background with a black track. i find it frustrating when i click accidentally then i try and go back 1 and it deletes.

No worries. Yeah I find there aren't really any good cad resources out there, they're either a bit hostile to new members signing up to post questions or specialist sites to do with mapping and other autodesk products. Best thing to do is just get a list of commands and find out what they all do! I had one somewhere...

now im having problems with sweeping :\ when i connect the spline up and sweep it, it says

Modeling Operation Error:
The sweep results in self-intersecting surface.

or

Modeling Operation Error:
Sweeping could not create a valid body.
Unable to sweep 1 selected objects.

depending on how the spline joins together and where.

ahh its fine now :)

result!

thanks for all your help :D
