Automatic Motorbikes

Not necessarily. The only ones I know of that aren't scooters are the Gilera 850 and Moto Guzzi V1000 Convert. Hope you like V-twins ;).

don't know of any fullsize motorbikes with automatic gearboxes offhand but you can get retrofit electronic thumbshifter mechanisims fitted to most bikes

these give you an up and a down button on the left handlebar switchgear that fires a motor/lever to move the gear selector..

if it's to overcome a left leg disability / problem, the NABD offer discounts / grants to aid with purchasing kliktronic systems?

Aren't BMW introducing automatics atm? Maybe I dreamed it.

edit- seems I did. How strange.

Yamaha have the FJR1300AS though, which has an automatic clutch on a regular 5 speed.

You can also get a few big capacity scooters, such as the bergman. Bike did a test this month where they pitted an R1 against a 500cc scooter over a long stretch of road in Europe. Apparently the scooter won, although I dont know how as I havent read it yet lol.

I imagine automatic bikes are quite dangerous. I really wouldn't like not being in control of gear shift timing on a powerful bike.

You are totally in control. The Yamaha system is simply a hydraulically-actuated clutch, you still change gear the way you normally would except you don't have a clutch lever. You can also change using shift buttons on the handlebars. It absolutely cannot change gear on its own.

Clutchless shifting from birth :D

I wouldn't fancy an autobox kicking down or changing up on full lean round a corner

On big lardy Harlys perhaps, but on anything else get a quickshift for your Power commander if your lazy or just clutchless shift if your a real man ;) :p

Fairly sure they are all CVT gearboxes, so no up and down changes, just a constant drive.
Most of the megascoots are CV's. Nice and smooth.
