Does anyone know of a program that'll start a shutdown sequence if GPU temps reach a certain value? Ideally something like core temp and the overheat protection but for the GPU as i anticipate GPU temps to reach critical before the CPU when a cooling failure happens. Had a look round and didnt seem to find anything GPU specific

Erm no idea. I think only CPU's have that sort of software. MSI Afterburner doesn't have it, just checked. If your GPU is getting too hot, try applying some new thermal paste and pads to it to cool the little bogger down. If you are having over heating problems, maybe you case isn't feeding the GPU enough cool air or it's time to get an aftermarket cooler or a new card.

Ah your running a 6950 and using a Corsiar 650D. Not the greatest case for air cooling. It's weird that a 6950 is overheating. Maybe you have overclocked it too much xD Plus running a powerful card like that with a freakin' dual core is not a great idea. CPU and RAM bottlenecking the performace of your card there dude. Sorry to say so.
Not to worry, i've a WC setup and a 2600k inboxes/on the way, i'm just worried about pump failure as this pc stays on 24/7 so the chances of failure while i'm not here/sleeping are high 
coretemp will do for some basic overheat protection but ideally wanted the trigger off the gpu as it kicks out more heat than a 2600k, if only GPUZ had this feature
