Autotrader and dodgy offers!!!

Selling you car is fun. You get interesting emails like this..

Hello, I am Mustapha jaji, I want to buy your car, please get back to me with your last price. And attach more pictures if any. Best Regards Sig Major. Mustapha jaji.

Apart from being robbed at gunpoint, and dodgy payment, what other scams are there?

I got another one from some dude with a clearly German name, written in French, and given a Ivory Coast phone number for me to call him back on

This 'final price' nonsense is annoying. It's up at a price (albeit far too high). If you want to negotiate, phone me or come and see it.
Receiving offers 2k below asking is a bit of a **** take.

For the un-initiated, the most obvious scam aspect is

A Fake Bankers draft which initially clears, then bank revokes many weeks later.. In the mean time, your cheque to the 'shipping agent'.. that'll be cashed well before the fake draft is spotted.

Name/Address/Phone number, well how far can you go with just that? Not ideal I guess, but at least 'fraud' of that type you are probably covered for, the above bankers draft, you won't be..

The real key spot for all of these types of scams is surely always the overpayment. If he's going to getting a bankers draft for £4500 why not simply get one for £1000?

The scam is that the draft will initially clear, funds will be in your account, so as per the instructions you then send off £3500, a few weeks later you'll be informed by your bank that the draft was in either stolen or forged and your bank will take £4500 out of your account, net result you're out of pocket to the tune of £3500.

+1

Stop..

Hey Oxide - I see from your sig you have Quad Lites - they good aren't they? :) I had a Denon 1910 but to my shock didn't, like it so it went back.

Carry on...

Stop...

For their size they are fantastic and compete with bigger bookshelf size speakers and don't sound underwhelming like smaller satelite speakers do. I can't recommend them enough, their quality is superb. I love the Denon 1909, I'm not sure why you didn't get on with its updated brother the 1910

Apologies for OT :)

Hammer time...

I have had my car on autotrader for over a week now and the only responses I have had so far are 3 scam emails. Fun times.

My sister had something similar. They either pick up the car then cancel the cheque - bam. Or they give you a small deposit, take the car and pay nothing else - bam.

Stay well clear, my sister started entertaining the idea until I told her to stop being a retard. This is from Nigeria and is very common. Avoid.

If they do a bank transfer into your account and the money's there, are you 100% safe?

no cos it will be a stolen account and a few months later the bank will take it back and you will be out of pocket by the difference, thats why they want you to send them 'change'

I've had an email from some dude who claims to be in north Africa and wants to pay now, for collection in September for when he moves to France, and wants to know the payment method.
Its cash only as far as I'm concerned, so I'm not sure how that would work :p

I can't really be arsed with this as I won't have the space either.
I mean I could take his money, and then sell it to someone else as well. Very strange
