Hi guys,
First time buying my own car aswell as first on autotrader.
Going to give this seller a ring (private) but I would like to know the key questions to ask?
He's/she's using the telesafe phone thing and isn't answering just now so i expect he/she is at work.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

How long have they had it, longer is better.

Has the car got a service history.

What car is it?

Don't haggle on price till you see the car, if everything seems alright go and view it and buy on condition.

First thing I'd be asking about is service history - FVWSH, FSH, PSH or NSH?

Best thing after that is to test drive the car and look out for any issues.

What extras does it have? It's a pretty small ad but they've advertised the fact you can mess about with the steering wheel reach twice in different wording which leads me to believe it's going to be pretty much povety spec.

Personally if you want a cheap small hatchback run about I'd be staying away from the Polo as people percieve VW to be a brand of higher quality and thus the value for money is pretty crud.
 
How long have you owned the car?

Has it got Full service history, partial service history or no service history? Are there any receipts/invoices to prove this? Has the service book been stamped?

Has it ever been involved in a crash or been accident damaged?

Will it be HPI clear?

My mum has a polo just now which I'm a named driver on and I like them.

I'm going to try and contact him/her and arrange a viewing.
I would have liked to see the interior / other angles of the car though.
 
Seems a bit cheap, they usually fetch for more.

When you phone them ask if their car is still for sale, don't say "is your polo still for sale?" that way you will be able too see if they are private seller or some trader posing as private, if they are they usually say "which one?" or something along those lines.

Ask him/her if he would be willing to give the most recent MOT cert number so you can do quick search online and see the mileage is genuine, any advisories in the last one, as the MOT s running out.

Ask him if his had the belts changed if they use belts and the condition of the clutch.

I just can't believe a 2 generation/8 year old car with nearly 100k on the clock that was probably only about 8k-9k new can still cost more than £1500!

Surely the whole point of you only having £1500 to spend is you really do want to get the best value for money and VW's are terrible at this.
