Hi All,

I've just bought a Yamaha YHT-199 to get me started with a basic AV system however just wanted some advise on how to connect everything.

Currently I have the following to connect to it -
- Sky HD
- Samsung Blu-Ray
- Samsung TV (UE46F6500)

Am I best connecting everything to the receiver and then use the HDMI out to the TV or am I best connecting everything to the TV and using a single connection to the receiver?

I would like to be able to have the choice of either listening through the TV or through the receiver if at all possible.

The TV also has HDMI ARC - not sure if this affects anything!

Any advise appreciated :)

Direct to the receiver, then a link to the TV ensures the best results for audio with Blu-ray. If the receiver has audio pass-thru then you'll be able to hear the sound from one source even though the receiver is switched off.

Connecting via the TV is seen as convenient. The rub is that the TV is often a bottleneck for sound. Sky should be okay, most TVs pass Dolby Digital. But Blu-ray has higher quality audio. If the TV doesn't pass it then the Blu-ray player will default to a basic audio stream rather than allowing through the full HD audio signal.
