Hello, I know this is a little bit of an old school request but I'm looking for AV Receive that has at least 3 HDMI inputs (For BluRay, Humax and CD Player) to attach to a couple of smallish speakers and a sub (B&W 686's and a B&W ASW610). This will be used primarily for music, the room is small and I don't want the cable nightmare of 5.1. Also not a fan of the huge receivers with masses of flashing light and settings; I'm a simple man and require simple devices ;)

Any Ideas??

.

I have a 2.1 setup and use a Onkyo htx22hd , but the sub is integrated with the receiver and comes with speakers but you could use your own apart from the sub.

It is capable of full 5.1 and does have 3 hdmi connections (you may want to check that).

Possibly better alternatives out there as I think the hdmi is for 2 inputs and 1 is for output , of which my tv goes threw the output and my bluray and ps3 go into the 2 hdmi inputs

An AV receiver isn't great when he mainly wants music.

Can your sub accept high level input? If so any stereo amp will do. Though I'm not sure if good stereo amps have HDMI inputs.

Well he said he wants it for set-top box and blu-ray as well.

I don't think they're bad for music, just they cost more. Eg..... a £200 AV amp will have fairly similar sound quality to a £100 stereo amp.

LOL never. Sorry but a decent £100-£200 stereo amp will be much better than any AV amp, unless your going into silly money territory. In this case a decent stereo amp is definitely in order, a Yamaha AS500 has a sub out, just the other sources via interconnects, and it will sound much much better than any AV amp, unless you plan on spending a lot of dosh.

Get a stereo amp, the sub has high level inputs so can take speaker leads etc.... Forget HDMI and use a DAC with SPDIF for the sound into the amp.

Or if you want all the switching and HDMI options look at a Marantz NR1402 or 1602..... The 1602 would allow you to add a separate power amp for the L+R channels later if you wanted more power and control.

That is what I said..... AV amps cost a lot more if you want equivalent sound quality.

He said he wants to connect his bluray and set-top box and doesn't want a lot of clutter. If he gets a stereo amp he's going to have to find room for a DAC and it still won't do everything he wants.

IMO he'd be better off with something like the Marantz NR1602. Does everyhing he wants in one box. (No idea how much he wants to spend).

But there is no point in getting a surround amp. He's not using multi channel surround speakers so there isn't any point in connecting it all via HDMI. Would be better off connecting the sources to the TV and then running a single pair of cables/optical cable from the TV back to a stereo amp.

True, but then theres additional hassle of changing inputs on the tv aswell as the Amp.

With an AV amp it would do all the switching for him and that may be a consideration (obviously he could just get a Harmony remote and program macros which would negate this)
