AV Receiver went bang...

I've got a Sony 1060 which i'm really impressed with with a 6 year warranty (my 1040 died and swapped it for the 1060) But Sony should be announcing the 1070 soonish in the uk.

I'd be looking for at least DTS:X and Dolby atmos support on a new amp if I was going to get one these days bud - doesn't look like any of the cheaper models you've linked above have them standards other than the £500 denon.

I've been trying to read into ATMOS and DTS X - do you reckon they'll make much difference to my 3:1 setup? I've read that they only effect 5:1 and above setups (for the surround speakers).

Peter Tyson have the AVRX2300 for same price with buy now pay later and also trade in. Might be worth looking. I'll be buying mine this afternoon as I can't see any bargain deals coming up for one.

Thank you. :)

I'll have a nosey when I'm home from work. The work WIFI doesn't seem to like the Peter Tyson website... haha.

@scottb777. i know people may suggest getting this or that because it as afew extra things and comes at a higher price. but now you've set yourself a budget i suggest keeping to it because you can find yourself spending £xxx's extra, there will always be something bigger and better.. you said yourself it doesn't need to be 'all singing, all dancing'

at the end of the day it's your money

i think both needs the surround speakers

but i found this on Richer Sounds
DTS:X

The current flagship DTS processor. Like Dolby Atmos it renders sound in a more immersive fashion. Unlike Atmos, it doesn't require a specific speaker configuration

Dolby Atmos

Dolby Atmos takes surround sound to a new level. By using high level speakers, Dolby Atmos enhances the feeling of being surrounded by sound. Firmware update may be required for some models.

I'd say its more for decoding support than owt else gareth - btw hello fella, its been a while! :)

Might as well future proof yourself as much as possible when making such a purchase (it's not like we buy amps and change them as much as stuff like graphics cards lol).

Not sure if it will benefit anything below a 5.1 setup bud - I assumed you had at least 5.1 as I do.

You're spot on - thank you for the advice. :)

If I'm honest I'm going to be stuck with 3.1 for the foreseeable future, simply don't have the space / distance for anything more. I'm pretty happy with it though, the Q Acoustics I've got fill the room pretty well. :)

3:1 will not benefit from DTS X or Atmos, you need a 5:1:2 as a minimum set up to benefit. Although I believe DTS Neutral X would see some benefit with a 5:1 set up.

Don't bother with the 2300 over the older 2200. The minimal 'upgrades' to this years model really isn't worth paying a premium for.

I'd grab a Marantz SR5010 or even better the 6010 (equivlent to the Denon x4200w) if you can. The 5010 is basically a Denon 2200 but better musically. The 6010 was being sold for 500ish new last time I looked. It was a 1k amp a year ago...

but thats £500~. his now got a of budget £300-350 . i agree maybe it is a better amp but not everybody can just add more money to they budget just because theres something better...

denon 2200 can be had for £389 https://www.hifonix.co.uk/detail/de...k-ultra-hd-a-v-receiver-with-bluetooth-and-wi but thats just outside his budget and depends if he can add £40~

Thank you Gareth, I'll see what the missus says budget-wise. ;)

I'll hold out until Black Friday anyway - you never know, I might get lucky!!

Buy 2nd hand. The 2200 flew off the shelf, so there is plenty about.

yes thats another option he could do, if he doesn't mind buying 2nd hand,

personally i'd only buy 2nd hand amp if it still as warranty, because i bought a 2nd hand amp before and it died after 5 months, had no warranty, so it was a waste of money....
