Avast versus AVG?

What's the better AV, Avast or AVG (both free versions) for virus scanning and low resources (CPU and HD usage)

Have used AVG for few years but it has piled on its weight over the time, it takes up too much system resources! Annoying updating box pops up every morning you booted up.

I never rated AVG, but that all stems from work, when I migrated from a cheap AVG site licence to Sophos. I had over 300 virus alerts within the first few hours deploying the new client. Took about a week to get rid of all the infections

So, by a process of elimination, I'd say Avast!

If your are searching for a free antivirus solution i would recommend AntiVir. It's free and it was ahead of AVAST and AVG in detecting viruses. Installed it on a mate's PC that wanted a free AV solution and i liked it aswell. Has all the things you need, it's interface is nice and it's not a resource hog. Search for it and see for youself

AVG is fine, but there are plenty of better alternatives in the market.

Personally, I stopped using AntiVirus and started employing my common sense a long time ago
