I have just checked and my CorsairTX 850W V2 is almost 5 years old! Is there an everage life for a PSU and could someone recommend one on here

All the ones I have looked at are out of stock  - I have looked at 5 different ones from different brands, do OcUK even sell PSUs now?

My Corsair was from here years ago

Take your pick from any of this lot.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £463.54
(includes shipping: £11.70)

For the record, I bought a Seasonic S12 430 Watter almost 10 years ago & its still going strong in my sisters PC. PSU's are supposed to degrade in power & efficiency over time but I've never kept a PSU long enough (3 years on average) to find out.

My previous Hiper X did eventually show signs of instability after 8 years but the Enermax 720W has gone to another home in a Q6600 based system and still going strong after 5 years.

I'm using a Corsair PSU now.

Before being told to buy 850w, what's it actually got to power? A quality 550w psu is more than enough for just about any single gpu setup even when overclocking. Sli 970/crossfire 380 is easily powered by a 650w psu (750w if on X99), sli 980's/crossfire 290/390 by a 750w psu. A 850w unit is only needed for the likes of 980ti sli or crossfire 290x/390x or similar.

Thanks
Would the 550 be sufficient if I decide to get another 980 Ti in the future?
What purpose do the bright white LEDs serve, other than using up power that could be used somewhere else?

I suggested 650w as you are running high clocks so for a pair of cards I would want a minimum of 850w, maybe 1000w if you are overvolting much. It's going to get expensive now and with the pound dropping even further yesterday I would suggest buying sooner rather than later.

The led's are there to serve a single purpose. To irritate people like me because I really hate them. Bling innit!! We were told last year that they were finally going to add a on/off switch for them but like with many other promises to come out of Superflower it hasn't happened yet.

Thanks. I will probably go for a SuperNova P2 850W staying loyal to EVGA and see it has a 10 year warranty! Do OcUK sell Seasonic, are they really worth the extra money as I have read they are the best - but maybe its just the name now, im not sure.

Seasonic are way overpriced and in my opinion are just trading on their past reputation. The more or less identical units they build for other manufacturers such as XFX and EVGA are much better value for money. You can't really go wrong with EVGA now. Big warranties and UK rma's make them fantastic value for money. The G2/P2/T2 units are actually Superflower Leadex Gold/Platinum/Titanium psu's with a different fan, longer warranty and no tacky led's.

Got an old enermax 470w 'noisetaker' psu in use in my parents system, its been in several systems (I think I bought it for an old Athlon 64 setup) and its still going strong so psu's can last for a really long time :)

I wouldn't replace one unless I had a reason to.

Never had a PSU fail on me. The oldest one I had around was ~9 years old before I scrapped the computer. A good PSU can have very a long operational life, but as with all components ymmv.

if you want to make your psy last dont get one that is just a little higher than your max load, it will cause the psu to work at its hardest. get a psu that is designed to run cool and has couple hundred watts in excess of your absolute peak requirement

OP - Did you RMA your TX PSU? If you're still within the 5 year period, might as well take advantage of it. If I'm not mistaken, since TX V2 are now EOL, you'll probably get an RM or RMx as a replacement, which are excellent PSUs within its category.
