Average PSU power?

What is considered to be the average power for a psu these days? I'm looking at getting a gtx 1080, but I have concerns that my psu might not be upto scratch. It's an 800w evga, which has been running my 680 for about 4 years now.

800W is more than enough. Depends on what model gtx 1080 but won't exceed 250W.

what model of EVGA? Personally i wouldn't go below Tier 1 PSU's or Tier 2 at worst case.

Excuse my ignorance tier1 tier 2 psu is not a phrase I'm familiar with, please explain more.

edit found a few lists (pinch of salt for some of the rankings), but
this seems more useful as its lists the internals manufacturer
