average wage for a typist?

Seems over the odds for me. Get your dad to tell her if she doesn't like the wages she can leave.

Is the other girl hotter because then she deserves to be paid more.
Providing they both type the same speed then, yes the hotter girl should get more money. If she one finger types then pay them the same.

But seriously, 15 years in a company deserves more pay as she'll know a hell of a lot more about the company and it's workings that anyone starting. Give her a raise

P.S. Damn you and your continuous head shots on me in TF2 the other day biba:p

Unbelievable, most Typist around here get around £5.80 to £6.20 an hour, and I would consider the latter to be extremely good.

I know a few admin people who do a lot more than type, and was suprised to learn that one lady was getting paid 17K a year and she had been with the company for 19 years.

I was continually angered that the English counterparts whom did a lot less, were offering 17K to 18/19 year olds who had no experience.

But the way I see it is, if you're stupid enough to work for nothing (barring lack of alternatives or ability/youth) then you deserve what you get paid.

What's your name on steam? I don't remember shooting a hen dawg!

I can see why should would want a raise after working there for 15 years and being on a meagre salary, but then again typing isn't exactly a skilled job.

I'd judge by WPM, initative etc etc, rather than what the job actually is.

Just because she has been there for 15 years doesn't mean she should be paid more. Infact i'm sure there are a lot more decent typists around now compared to 15 years ago.

If she has been there 15 years, she may now be dried up, so factor in the cost of a new person might get pregnant in your costings before dismissing a raise.

If it's literally just typing and very basic admin then I don't think she should be paid more. Does the "quotes etc. putting them in spreadsheets" bit involve anything more than just plugging in numbers?

However secretarial roles can vary wildly, ranging from the above right through to a full blown PA - answering phones, setting up meetings, organising calendar etc). Those type of roles can often pay a lot more, as a proficient PA can be invaluable to high level managers/directors.
