Tonight I went to update the anti virus and anti spyware using the update manager and I keep getting a message " A .bin file is missing ".I've no idea whats happend,I've uninstalled it and downloaded a fresh version from AVG's site but still get the same message once AVG is installed, anyone got any idea's??????

Hahaha, just as I see the title of this thread I look down at AVG, and guess what? Missing bin file

Found this:

Get the .bin manually.

1) go to http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-update
2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG
3) download AVI: 270.6.4
4) download IAVI: / 1616
5) move files to the AVG directory you made
6) launch AVG
7) select tools -> update from directory
8) select the AVG directory as the update source

Can confirm this works.

An update released today for AVG 8.0 Free is confirmed as corrupted. Either do not update your AVG today, or if you do and you experience this issue, wait for the next update to fix it"

Just update today or anytime after to fix it ;)

Glad problem is sorted but why two antivirus applications?

Man, that's gotta be slow!

Get rid of Norton/Symantec.
Hiya Swinnie,I got AVG & Symantec cause I figured I get twice the protection,as for speed I've only had my current system a matter of a couple of weeks and compaired to my old pc it flies even with both programes running!!!

My new system is the Ultima Accelerator 4850 got from OCUK,,,,now compaired that to my old system which was a Dell P4 3.06Gh,2Mb ram and a 7600 gt card.AVG slowed the Dell down some what but doesnt seem to affect the new set up.
What is CCleaner Slim,is it better than AVG and would my system run any faster?By the way,its AVG 8.0 Free I'm using.

Are you running both with active protection/real time protection enabled?

If so you may get potential conflicts

Two AV running isn’t a great idea but if you must run two have one for real time and one for on demand only

A better solution would be install your AV of choice with a decent AS app and a one off checker which you run on demand such as Dr Web Cure it

Hiya Tonyf1971,
I've taken some of your advice and switched Symantec to on demand only and left AVG on auto.
