Hi guys
My new netbook came with AVG Free version. I want to uninstall it and use Kaspersky. I know there are special tools to really get rid of things like Mcafee & Norton but what about AVG? Just uninstall through control panels add/remove?

Cheers :)

Just delete these keys :)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AVG8Uninstall

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVG\Avg8

Hope that sorts it :)

I had Free AVG and didn't download the tools in post 2 & 3 or delete the registry keys, but I did use ccleaner's registry cleaner so I suppose that removed them as I've just done asearch and don't have them.

Not trolling or thread hijacking as the answer seems to be posted above, but just curious as to why people prefer Kaspersky to AVG?

I use AVG not out of any great loyalty just because it is free. As far as I know I do not have any viruses so AVG does seem to do what it advertises.

Can anyone shed the light on why I should be using Kaspersky?

Because Kaspersky etc do what AVG says it does better; not to mention AVG deliberately holds back protection updates etc to justify its paid for version.

As the say goes, how can you tell if you don't have anything, if what you have can't see it?

If you're going to use free AV software, use Avira Antivir or Avast.
