Just received an Abit AW9D-MAX and E4300 CPU. Put everything together with my existing components but I can't get the thing to POST - I keep getting post code 9.0.

I have tried the following:
- Reset CMOS using jumper dozens of times
- Removed battery for ~ 1 hour
- Starting/shutting down in quick succession 3 times (as suggested in manual)
- Mobo, CPU, RAM, VGA, PSU only
- Mobo, CPU, RAM, PSU
- Mobo, CPU, PSU
- Different CPU (Prescot 3.2GHz)
- Different VGA
- Mobo, CPU, RAM, VGA, PSU installed outwith case
- Direct connection to various PSU power connectors (i.e. no extensions/adapters)

The only thing I've not been able to swap-test is the RAM and PSU, although removing the RAM entirely has no effect on the outcome, neither does having just one stick in any of the 4 slots. As for the PSU, it was working fine powering my entire system previously and I've now had it running with just the mobo, E4300/P4 3.2, 1 stick of PC6400, and Ati X300 but still get same result.

I would have posted this over at the abit forums but I'm still awaiting the confirmation email, so here's hoping someone here can give some advice...

9.0. is usually either BIOS related (corrupted/unsupported CPU etc.) or power related (short, inadequate/dying PSU etc.).
As you have tried another CPU I'm guessing that you may have a short - try building it out of the case.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already built it out of the case with no success. I'll be trying a new PSU tomorrow but I can't see that being the problem. It's looking more and more like there is a problem with the BIOS :(

Hey mate,

Did you try the suggestions in the email (to clear uguru and the Bios)?

9.0 is usually either bios or psu related.

Hey mate, yeah I did. I shorted the CMOS jumper several times, removed the battery for 1 hour+, switched on/off 3 times and again but doing it up to 10 times... Tried everything I can think of and read to reset the BIOS but so far no joy.

The only thing I've got left to try is a different PSU. I'll be taking my PC into work tomorrow (we've got a computer lab so can swap test parts) so I'll be able to rule out any hardware issues then.
I did read something about if the BIOS fails to POST it may try to boot from floppy and reflash...?? Anyone know anything about this and if it works?

Hmm...Let me know how that goes mate. I'm in uni most of the day but send me an email anyway and i'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I am no expert, and it's just a thought, but could this be because the default RAM voltage is to low which is why it wont boot, I have heard about something like this before in which you put in some lower spec RAM, set the required 2.1/2 voltage and then power off and install your other memory.

Im probably completely wide of the mark here, just something I have heard.

Kribby.
