Yes, Virgin ADSL really IS as bad as they say.
This is the best it's been all week too; it's normally 400ms+.

My Virgin DSL was shocking at the beginning of the year (.5mb down, 180ms to my fav server) and they were most unhelpful, just take a look at their forums. It affected loads of their DSL customers. The CS reps were just reading a script telling you to do a load of daft things (defrag your hard drive!) and because I had a 6 months to go they were saying I needed to pay x amount to leave dispite them not providing the service.

As soon as my contract was up they couldn't do enough. Had the line tested, BT engineers out (it wasn't the line) then all of a sudden as if by magic (or the push of a button) my DSL was back to normal. O haven't renewed with them, still on the rolling post contract period. I'll give it a few weeks/months. The only alternatives have are BT or TalkTalk... Neither of whom I want to give money too :0

I'll run that traceroute when I get home, even though I'm in Belfast I'd bet it won't be 400ms

Like I said, it's only poor for a handful of people.

Take a look at http://www.virgin.net/allyours/broadband/index.shtml

"Unlimited" non-LLU service for £25 per month? I don't think so.

It explains why the OP is experiencing high latency. It's because the service is saturated with people paying peanuts for an "unlimited" service.

The only alternatives have are BT or TalkTalk... Neither of whom I want to give money too :0

That's not true. Check out Zen and IDNet. Don't go with BT or TalkTalk if you care about your Internet connection. :)

Right.... so if Virgin are a poor broadband providor why the hell is so many people on it...

/yes makes sence. Like I said, handful of people has issues. Theres a lot of downloaders on Virgin, this is whats causing saturation for all providors... not just Virgin!

You are mistaking their DSL service with their Cable service.

The latter is 1000x better than the former.

My vote goes to Pipex and their customer services! Phoned them recently, Waiting 2hours then someone picked it up, said he has to transfer me to different department, another 75min wait (and £30 mobile credit gone) and then i say I keep getting 1-2min drop outs of connection every so often, very inconvinient when you play online games. I checked all the cables, i tried reseting and rebooting router as well as pc and it seems that problem is with the line and in reply?

Ok, sir, now I would like to ask if you can check your cables...
I told you I've done that

Ok sir, Now please turn off your modem...
I told you I've done it already

Sir, now turn your modem back on...
Man... Im telling you I've tried it already...

Ok, now reboot your pc...
.......... ffs........

Now please monitor your connection over the next 24 hours and give us a call back.
WTF????

Getting PlusNet installed next week :)

I'm not I know I am on a bout the DSL service. What I am trying to say is that no matter what ISP your on some people will have issues, some won't. Is it that hard to explain?

That's fairly obvious and it doesn't explain why the OP is having issues.
