I have seen this one a few forums. Basicly list the away games you have been this year and then others can ask advice on parking and pubs ect if they are planning on going.

This season i have been

Bolton
Everton
Hull
Blackburn
Aston Villa
Wigan
Man City x2 (one league one FA cup)

The advice i would give for Bolton would be to avoid the train at all costs if your team has had problems with Greater Manchester Police in the past.

We got about 150 fans marched with about 30 cops and 5 riot vans from victoria station to picadiily station Manchester (stoke on trent train is in picadilly)

The cops treated us like caged animals anyone who tried to leave there pen got a good smash benhind the knees. Wanted to go for a drink/food in manchester after the game? Tough doodies you were MADE to go home. Man City and Manchester united did not even play that day either.

Aston Villa is an absolute horrible place to park and drive to. Next time i would just use the train and taxi.

If anyone has any questions about the away games i have been just ask:p

Train's a very good option for Villa, Witton station is about 300 yards' walk from the ground itself, and a 8-9 minute train ride from Birmingham New Street. I've driven there twice in the last 2 seasons, both times got there 2 hours before kick off (4+ hour drive for me), found parking no problem (£6, right next to the ground), but getting out of course is a nightmare. Everything trying to pile out onto the M6 takes a good 45mins to an hour, but it's plain sailing home after that.

My buddy drove to Villa and we just did street parking. Unfortunately the place goes into a one way system after the match so we had to turn the car around and becuase veryone wants to get on the M6 quickly no one would stop for us.

Massive delay on getting out of the place aswel.

What team you support? Just a guess due to location but maybe Pompy?

If so i have been there before back in the day you signed Yakubu in the old div 1. It was stokes first year back in the div 1 and i think you were top. We lost 3-0 and i remember steve stone scoring a goal. I also remember the roof on the away stand.

My next away day will probably be pompy on the 20th. Any tips?

You get one guess :D

Yep, it does turn into a one-way system effectively, as no traffic's allowed to go past the ground at Trinity Road, so everyone piles onto the M6.

Why was there a massive delay getting out? Seems a bit odd.

We used to park on the streets nearby when I went a good 8-10 years ago, but wouldn't do it myself. £6 for a 100 yard walk and easy access onto the M6 road seems fair to me :)

Like the idea for the thread though!

Oops, didn't see that. Villa fan here. Never been to Fratton Park so can't help out there I'm afraid, only driven past it :p

Just use this tbh

www.footballgroundguide.com/index.html

But out of interest this season I've been to

Birmingham
Bolton
Blackburn
Burnley
Tottenham
Man City
Norwich
Middlesborough
Wigan
Stoke
Wealdstone
Celtic
Rangers

And I'm going to Arsenal on Saturday and Fulham on Sunday :)

I have a train ticket booked for Aston Villa on March 6th but they will be playing the FA Cup 6th round if they squeeze past Palace. So instead of letting the train tickets go to waste we are considering going to watch Walsall to tick off a new ground, catch a game etc. Anyone been there?

The last 3 times ive been to Villa Park ive had my car broken into :( learnt not to leave anything inside, not even the radio, after the first time but its still replacement glass :( So yeah, train gets my vote.

-edit-

Due to there being no 'secure' parking anywhere, hundreds of kids roaming the streets on match days.

Like I said, get there early enough and there's enough marshaled parking areas for £5-£6. I've been there several times and not had a problem, you lot obviously aren't looking hard enough :p

Always use Marshalled Car Parks and you shouldnt have a problem, I have been to Villa about a dozen times and never had any problems, it is certainly one of the friendlier away grounds

This season aways I've done are United, City, Wolves, West Ham and Stoke.

Always use Football Ground Guide to find safe places to park and where to have a drink before, really good website.

City was a good trip this season even if the result wasn't. Parking (mate drove, always a result) and a decent pub about 5 mins walk from the ground.

I'm a newcastle united fan living in london.

Try get as many away game tickets as possible for down here but its difficult as there was limited and we always sell out our away capacity to season ticket holders :(

I have pretty much stopped going now, but Im curious to know if people still keep a record of their away trips, I had a list of the 92 league clubs and ticked off each club as we played them. Even going to every away match for nearly 25 years, I never did manage the whole list, but I was sort of relieved at that as we had a god awful reputation against the lower league clubs - I use to physically dread the FA cup 3rd round..

I keep a record, mostly as L1/le champ was a lot of fun :)

Of the 92 I have done about 20 (at a guess) but love trips to lower league clubs to inane games/cup ties, wish the fa cup 3rd round wasn't hosting chelsea last season, just more fun going for a tuesday night away in Stevenage or a New Years day away at Dagenham and Redbridge...

I don't have a season ticket at Villa, so getting away tickets is near on impossible apart from midweek games to the likes of Sunderland...and living near Brighton, a 7 hour journey on a Tuesday night is a bit tricky. If I could get away tickets I would defo go

Anyone going to Crystal Palace some advice.

Whenever mentioned in the press there are often complaints about how difficult it is to get to the ground by train. There are 3 stations within a short walk of the ground. Selhurst, Norwood Junction and Thornton Heath are all short walks away. Selhurst is the best station if travelling down from London.

NOTE : Crystal Palace Station is nowhere near the ground.

I know that feeling, only newcastle cup games i've been to are the brighton ones last two years.

Neither ended well.
