OK...So, as some of you know, my work dried up straight after christmas, I have been on the JSA for a little while now, not paying much, £106 every 2 weeks.

My mum and dad split just before the end of last year, November 2011. Long story, rather not give all the details, just I have dis-owned my mum...
Anyway, I was struggling to pay my rent and live, my girlfriend moved in with me, and that helped, but it was far from ideal.
My dad has moved in with his new girlfriend, and sold the old house, payed his debts off and THEN he got another mortgage and got another house...and gave me the key. He got me a house! He is paying for the mortgage, I have to pay for everything else, but that is amazing! It's not a bad place either, 2 bedroom, bathroom is a little small, but still good. My dad is awesome.

So, over the next couple of days I shall be moving into there and setting my-self up. Bills for this place end at the end of March. Getting Infinity (think thats it) and Sky HD installed tomorrow at the new place.

Excited!!

TL;DR - Dad bought me and girlfriend a house...

So, you're on JSA and you're getting BT Infinity and Sky HD installed asap?

Nice priorities.

Oh, grats on the house.

SNAP

ME AND DUNK, same minute post

also OP, nice to see youve got things in order, girlfriend "check", Infinity "check", Sky HD "check"....just need a bed and xbox/gaming rig and your done really

i assume you'll be telling the job centre about this change in circumstances? there's no way you'll be eligible for benefits if you have your own house.

I don't mean to sound daft but if finances are a struggle at the moment then is Sky HD and BT Infinity really a good investment? Would Freeview and a basic BB package not be better until you've got more money coming in?

It's very generous of your dad to give you a house but I don't know if that's a great reason not to think about being able to pay for things yourself. Maybe your dad isn't bothered about it but what if for some reason he asks you to pay your share of the mortgage - if you've already committed to luxuries that you don't really need then you'll quickly find you're struggling again.

He doesn't though, as I read it it's still his dads as he's the mortgage payer. He won't get housing benefit any more but is still eligible for JSA and whatever else.

Yes he will, its JSA having a house has nothing to do with it. He is unemployed thus gets JSA.
