Totally agree.
Even Penski changes his face + penis hardware all the time because he doesn't like it anymore.
People make choices all their life and then change to something else (cars, settees, toasters, clothes, music and so on) but for some reason they think they will like their tattoo for life.
I know plenty of people who regret having certain tattoos and I think the rest tell fibs.
You can't possibly stand in a tattoo parlour and say "I'm going to like that for the next 60+ years".

And another thing -
If I was to wear a 'peace' swastika t-shirt and walk through every major town in the civilised world I'm pretty sure what 100% of the onlookers would think.
I don't think anybody would be saying "Oh look Law, it isn't what you think, the legs go the opposite way and it curves slightly meaning its Tibetan and therefore peaceful"
 
I'm a massive fan of tattoo's and have a couple of pieces myself.

The images that Penski shows are very very good, however tattoos are always going to divide the public.

The image below is something that has amazed me, i dont know who's work it is but i think its the most amazing tattoo i have ever seen.

The swastika one is stupid. It's one of those "we'll take the word back" acts. It doesn't matter if it was positive symbol for millennium. 70 years ago painter from Austria changed that. Story ends. Fallic symbols were sign of fertility and applauded since beginning of humanity. Tatoo dick on your forehead and you'll be kicked out of malls and dragged off public beach every time. Not hard to understand, is it. The whole "it's not THAT swastika I have on my leg mum" is equally naive as a belief that you will be the same as now forever. Twenty years from now world will be full of fat chicks with faded, lumpy and baggy butterflies on their cellulite ridden bums and ugly hobos with stretched, discoloured clown faces and "To my wife Mary" tatooed on now twice the size soggy arms.

It's not hard to understand things change in life - just because 25 years ago you liked Shakin Stevens it's not a good reason to immortalize his mug on your chest. Same goes for "world outlook" or "hindu theme of the week" on a white boy's thigh.

Think of it this way - if you like body art so much, do it in henna, this way you can do new one few times a year - eh - that's fun, isn't it?

No I don't. The only time I change jewelery is because I've lost a bit or if I'm stretching the piercing. I just got some 26mm teak plugs. They're ****ing gorgeous...But when I go to 28, they'll be stuck in a drawer, sold or traded. Stop talking crap.

Horlicks.

The angle, direction, straightness, bendiness or anything else has no impact on what 'kind' of swastika it is. The only thing that does is context.

T-shirt with a swastika inside a lotus flower being sported by a hippy type? Probably a good one.

Flag with a swastika on it being waved by an angry WASP skinhead? Probably a bad one.

The swastika has a stigma about it that you wont be able to erase, no matter what way you put it most of the population of this planet will see the bad side of that symbol.

Just because people dont agree with you doesnt mean theyre automatically wrong, i think you forget that sometimes :\
 
I agree with dmpoole, tattoos can look great but its a status symbol, I would only get one if I was apart of an army corp, something to remind you of those days not some garbage design or symbol of how you lived in that month of that year of your life.

Look up the real meaning of tattoos and you see why 92.5% of people fail.

And thats why I wont have one, you need a history, a culture to have one.

Thats a bit of an assumption isn't it? It would seem more to me that it's more likely that someone would want 28s, but seeing as you can't go from 0 to 28 and have to do stretches he is just moving up until he gets his final result? I don't think he has confimed anything by that statement.
 
There is some very good artistry in there, can’t say it’s a style I particularly like but they are well done. Though I do really quite like the blue Ganesh design on that guys back. Anyone know what it says at the bottom (see what I did there :p). Also loving that stone effect one zootfloot posted.

Mohinder has a really cool banksy tattoo, amongst others.

I do think tattoos suit some people and not others. Of course you will also get some amazing tattooists and some quite poor ones, skill varies just like any other form of art. I‘ve seen some I like and some I don’t like. Usually the ones I don’t like are because they are poorly executed. Am I the only person who tends to not really notice them on people once you know them? I know a few people with either large tats or multiple ones and generally speaking after a while I really just don’t notice them at all. I actually don’t have any myself but I don’t really think they would suit me. Much the same as I wouldn’t dye my hair black; not because I don’t like black hair and think it looks bad, it just wouldn’t look right on me.

I like my ears. I love them; I love the way they look, I love the way they feel, and I love the quality, the look and the feel of the jewelery I have in them at the moment.

However, it is a VERY slow process to stretch your ears and still keep them as thick and healthy as mine are.

Does that mean I dislike them? No it doesn't.

The thread is about tattoo's and with tattoo's you can't exactly change them when you get bored like you do with your jewellery.
You're stuck with them - forever.
So you can't exactly say AT THIS MOMENT with a tattoo.

I suppose you could cover it up with a plaster when you get bored and then take it off a year later when its back in fashion.

Anyways, unfortunately penski, I fall into the group of "they will regret it" but only if they have a "omg, I need one of these, everyone has one" tattoo.

For example, a few of my friends have their 1st name tattooed on their forearm in old english style writing. Personally think it looks crap. Im not a big fan of tribal tattoos either that were at the time a craze tattoo.

I think a good tattoo should really mean something, and be personal to you. Get it right and jobs a goodun.

But penski, a question if I may... Do you honestly think that the full body tats look good? Or the guy with the massive black things stretching their ear to infinity?

Not slagging you off because I know you have some of those ear things, just wanted your view on it.
