Awful frame-times in GTA IV and most games really

Hey guys,

I'm getting awful frametimes in GTA IV (at least I think I am). I feel that in most games I get bad frametimes really. I recently changed my GPU so that's not the culprit.

If someone has GTA IV could you do me a massive favor and post a frametime graph like mine so I can compare? I'm running on a 970, i5 4690k with no vsync or framelimiter.

Here you go. System used is a 4690k @ 4.6 ghz with 2 970 strix have done 6 different tests for you see graphs below. I have noted on them what settings i used.

Hope this can help you solve your issue.

I suspect two things are at play here

1 mine being sli will cause some issues here.
2.the further the card is pushed the slower it gets in frame times. As would be expected

What settings are you running ?

1080p No v-sync or limiter, Icenhancer 3.0, in-game setting at highest expect for the sliders (which are at 70).

I will try putting them as low as they'll go and testing again. I had an R9 290 that couldn't deliver a perfectly paced 30fps with GTA:IV but my 970 can. Is it normal for Nvidia to have better frametimes?

Love the Overclockers community! :D Thanks again Harry mate, that's very interesting and perfect for my testing. I'll post anything interesting I find. Of course, GTA IV is a notoriously bad port and not ideal for testing haha. It's a Shame too because it's a fantastic game that still puts more modern games to shame.

No problem mate :)

Yeah i remember when GTA V launched all my console dwelling friends were blown away by it and i found it hilarious that my GTA IV with ice still looked better.

I can't wait to see how GTA V runs on the pc and also can't wait to see what the ICE team come up with for it :D Stoked about this launch!

Me too, can't wait! I have feeling it's going to be a much better port than IV giving the great job they did with Max Payne 3. Honestly though, I feel I'm one of the few PC gamers who can gladly play at 30fps as long as it's perfectly paced, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way.

I don't mind it in some titles... however stuff like the crew being locked at 60fps is a nightmare. With the pace of the game it needs to be unlocked. And the fact that developers are listing 30/60fps as features is not a good sign D: We don't pay for expensive equipment to be locked at console specs.

Gta iv was an absolute mess with my 970. Card downclocking because of low load, low cpu usage, framerates all over the place. Its junk.

Damn those DayZ times are horrible!

Does G-Sync mitigate the problem? Do you just launch games now, no v-sync, no limiters, and just play and it's great?

Well G-Sync generally makes it a much smoother experience by a long shot. however when you go from 90fps - 20 fps for a split second it's still noticeable however because of the smoothness in transition it's not nearly as bad. my ROG swift is the best monitor ive ever bought everything is wonderfully smooth. bar the aforementioned split drops

I don't run any limiters or anything now though. Just let gsync rock its magic
