Well after posting here before, I still have major issues with this game.

I have tried changing rates

re-installing

Different settings, including internet type

Different servers

Sometimes my character will just stop, then everything will catch up to speed then stop again.

CS: S is fine which is totally weird..as are other online games.

you do you get like echo of sound too ?

I had this (in Vista), that only was fixed when I removed my readyboost.

The issue you describe sounds pretty identical to the one I suffered playing BF2 on my old rig. Would play fine for a bit, then I would just stop, freeze, and resume a few seconds later with everything around me changed. Drove me NUTS and made the game unplayable. On my laptop play was fine, but obviously I had to drop the visuals quite a bit.

Haven't installed it on my new desktop to check, but I simply couldn't figure it out.

Theres various threads on the steam "support" forums about this issue some users are claiming to have cured it by removing av software although I wouldn't recommend that, I had the issue myself and found using omega drivers sorted it out for me.

I cant find any of the threads and cant use steamforums search right now for some reason :o

But if the above is what your experiencing your not alone.

I can't see the youtube videos due to being at college, but I think I have a similar problem when now going on teleporters. Its all fine until I actually teleport, when the game freezes up for 2-4 seconds and then I suddenly arrive at the other end of the teleport. Only really noticed it since the goldrush update.

I am also not using wireless....

TF2 and CSS run on different versions of the source engine which could explain why it affects one and not the other.

Perhaps you could try a mod which has been updated for the Orange Box version of the engine to see if that is affected in the same way as well, it would atleast isolated the problem a bit more if it is. Don't have a list to hand of any multiplayer ones which have been updated but you could try looking through ModDB for recently updated mods or something like that.

Have you got a screenshot of your net graph? Type net_graph 4 into the console and take a screenshot when you get lag, it looks like this (this is a graph of good gameplay):

i had a similar issue to this, where I would experience really bad lag for ages, then it would suddenly go away. Then come back again. No idea how I fixed it tho

Well it wasn't so bad on that server. It's quite odd, especially on Multiplay servers.

I can freeze/lag with a low ping and no loss/choke. It definitely seems like lag - like the video I posted above.

Edit: Didn't get any lag then, I'll try again in a moment.

Edit: Now with lag on an MP server.

Probably wont help any but it cant hurt, your lerp is set to default 100ms it really should be set to roughly your average ping in the first screen its 31 so cl_interp 0.030 and cl_interp_ratio 1 enter both commands in the console.

What the above does is more closely corolates the models your firing at with the hitboxs.

Guess that was off topic a bit but meh :P

That's another thing - my ping on the score board is 18 or something yet the ping there is 211ms? Is that the real time ping?

I've just pinged a server that I was getting loss/choke:

Out of interest, cos I think I'm having the same problem, how do you get that graph up with the stats on screen?

PK!

I get this mainly when I join TF2 server the servers list appears to always keep updating when I join, causing me massive pings and slowdowns.

What I always have to do when I enter a game, is ESC > servers > stop refresh then it sorts itself, long shot I know but worth a look?

Yeah the ping in netgraph is more correct the one on the scoreboard updates less so you can miss short latency spikes, I know you said earlier you had tried different rates did you find any difference at all?

Generally most ppl use something like "rate 25000" "cl_cmdrate 66" "cl_updaterate 66"

The youtube video you posted looks a lot like latency spikes to me have you checked for viruses or spyware that could be slowing things down or have any programs running that could be attempting to update.

I know this is your second thread on the same problem so you've probably covered all those but I just cant think of any other reason for this.

@misterPK net_graph 4
