AWFUL mpg!

Probably the coolant temp sensor, 4 pin green no more than £15 ish. If the ECU thinks its cold it will run overly rich, very common. Fits in plastic housing off the head.

Thank you for that Vita, you've made my morning :D

Did you mean to say Sienna Miller? :D

No I did not. That car was bags of fun, ok it wasn't the fastest machine in the world. Though it did handle great, and since it had a close ratio gearbox it accelerated rather well for a small car. I actually miss that car, what really let it down was the interior, though I'd expect that for a cheap car. So driving like Senna was an option and that's what I did. Had a few scary moments (rain, crap tyres), the go-kart feel of the car was nice.

Tuning parts are available but come at a dear price, though If I had loads of £££ to waste I would have supercharged it. You could get around 150/160bhp, but it would be a faff as you'd need a piggyback ecu etc and it's simply just not worth it in the long run/resale. I imagine the grin factor to be great though.

I was in eurocarparts yesterday. The two people ahead of me both ordered stats for 1.6 golfs

It's the time of year I suppose. when we had the first cold spell, the number of thermostat related threads on vag forums skyrocket :)

What I don't understand is why thermostats on Vag cars don't seem to last as long compared to others?

That does seem awful. I got 120 miles from £20 when I had my 1.5 Yaris. I drove like Senna everywhere in that car, short trips too. If I drove economically I could get around 30miles more. I think I used to put in around 15L at the price it was at. The trip computer used to give me 35mpg, and on a long distance drive around 43mpg give or take a few mpgs. The car was great on fuel.

My current car 2.0 Impreza NA, has crap mpg. Worse so in this weather, so I doodle like a grandma in that. Driving style does make a big difference.

Kinda defeats the purpose of owning a powerful high performance 4 wheel drive car really. Although I had an ST years ago that would drop to single digit MPG in below freezing weather when in town traffic.

Well yeah it does, I should have bought the turbo lol. Though the N/A does what I need it for so it's fine. I'm not too fussed about performance atm, though it's not really bad mpg, it's just a lot worse than the Yaris was.

I will probably change again sometime in the future.

15-20 Mpg Awful! Phhhhffftt!

I wish I got that in the ST220, managed a whopping 11 around town the other day. Damn Bristol traffic!

It's usually much better but traffic was awful and I like my heated seats

Not much help I know :o

Thermostat is definitely a good place to start.

The thermostat is stuck open on my Astra, I keep putting it off because it's behind the cambelt cover though. That and the coolant temp sensor has a broken wire somewhere doesn't make amazing MPG, but I still get 35+ out a tank of hooning it.
