Here are a few b-boying shots from a competition which was part of the Warwick Student Arts Festival (WSAF) at Warwick University. I was the photography coordinator
As you can probably tell I was using flash with my Sigma 10-20mm to get everything exposed correctly. I think the combination works great, what about you?

I really like these, great colours and the fill flash works great. The flash gives the guys a really good presence.
But i have to ask...

I was using the on-board flash. Normally a shadow would be seen at the bottom but I think the natural light and and stage lights cancelled it out. Which is cool!

The awesome skin tones come from a new slider in Lightroom 1.1: 'clarity'. Go check it out now!

Yeah, thats why i asked. Looks like you got lucky with the flash, did you remove the lens hood, i noticed this reduces shadowing significantly. I need to get a flash gun to use offboard. So many times i've been using my 10-20 and wanted to use flash.

They stole it from PSP! :)

EDIT: After a second look, imo they could do with a bit more contrast and sharpening :)

EDIT: Ignore that above edit, just noticed my monitor is in its annoying "bright mode"

I did have the hood off because it does reduce the shadow a little.

The other night I used a canon ex540 flash with it to cover a union event, and it worked pretty well. With the wide angle thing on the flash it claimed 14mm coverage but the photos look alright at 10mm. Of course manual mode was used to compensate for the Canon/Nikon clash :p

I will have to get me a flash one day. But £140 seems a lot :(

Could be my monitor as I'm in work but they look a bit over processed to me the dancers and stage looks super imposed onto the back ground, other than really like the way you've managed to capture what is a pretty challenging subject.

I think that's just the post processing really. It does look like the saturation and contrast have been pushed a little more than you normally see. Although with this subject matter, I think it actually works :)

Yeah they are processed to give biggest impact. Just for reference here is the photo with no adjustments, just a straight RAW>JPEG export from lightroom (I think a little sharpen is automatically added).

I agree it does look like a cut and paste jobby but it wasn't!
