what exactly does B grade mean?:o

this is what i think it is... correct me if im wrong.

something that has been returned for some reason, then is fully tested and if it works, put on sale again.

also some of the things that came with it at retail may not be there.. eg cables etc.

is that correct?

just cheking before i purchase.

and is there any way i can find out what exactly is missing before buying?

thanks

You pretty much summed it up.

You might be able to send a web note and see what they say :)

Rob :)

So apart from 14 day OCUK warranty it still has the manufacturer's warranty? Is it full warranty or simply what is left from the original purchase of the item?

This is the response I got from a webnote to them very recently about the very same thing :)

Thankyou for your webnote

Bascially b Grade items have either box damage or are missing items. They are very unlikely to be faulty.

Regards

I've bought a couple of motherboards from OCUK Bgrade and will never do it again.

They always turn up bare, no box no cables no cd no backplate nothing.

And you get a piddly discount.

And to be frank, that approach has put me off all of ocuks Bgrade stuff. If it had a big discount I might be tempted but for Bgrade I now read "unboxed and bare" which can hav a massive impact on resale value.

it was a motherboard i was planning to buy:( never mind then

is it a big discount?

would you mind paying to send it back if it turns up bare? You can always get a refund under the distance selling act, in fact you can get a refund on your postage back too but thats a bit of a PITA.

Yea you're supposed to be able to get postage back for items that you're forced to send back e.g. those that came DOA but not all companies offer this which really is quite annoying.

normally you have to claim the postage cost back which is more than I can be bothered to do. Life to live and all that.

How long would it take O/c to list what comes with the B-grade, this would make buyers a lot happier.

I recently purchased a B-Grade GFX card, for someone @ work, there didn't seem to be anything missing from the box, unless it was a bit of wire that i wouldn't notice anyway. I't works great and saved about 10-15 pound.

£10 saving for B-Grade! thats shocking IMO!

I purchased a B-Grade Samsung SM245T last week. No retail box or cables, but other than that absolutely nothing wrong with it. Saved over £200 as well, so I'm well chuffed. :)

Bought a P5N-E SLI B-Grade a long time ago and it came in its original box with every accessory - SATA/power cables, manual, CD, IDE/floppy cables, even SLI bridge and ASUS sticker just without backplate, I paid £47 for it which was a good £40 cheaper than a brand new retail one at the time - one of the best purchases I made.

Agreed not all b grade mobos are good deals but why are people surprised when they only get a bare mobo in a brown box?

Just last week there were Gigabyte P965 DS3s going for £23 which was a helluva price.

for a £10 discount off a £130 board? I wasn't suprised, I was disgusted!

I suppose it depends where it started.. if it was a £300 8800 ultra then its lame. if it was a £60 bottom end card then its a good saving.

Still, maybe I'm a bit louche but £10 wouldn't motivate me to not go for brand new.

Absolutely. For the sake of a tenner, I'd definitely go for brand new.

There are some genuine bargains to be had amongst the 'B grade' stuff, though.
