Just change of plans. Really like the card. Will be sad to see it go.
OK so the card arrived on Friday and was working fine for a while but now I'm getting random crashes where the display just goes blank until I restart the computer. Sometimes it won't even get as far as to boot the computer and if it does I can play a game for all but a few seconds now.
I took the card to my mates house and installed it on his pc since his psu is much better than mine , an 850w corsair, still the same problems

Return it if your having problems. Make sure you have no old drivers messing things up if changing sides.

Only B grade GPU i ever bought here was a FX5950 a loooong time ago. It was fine in XP until you actually loaded a driver then all hell broke loose, desktop turned to a checkerboard and the nvidia drivers stopped working constantly, sent it back the next day.
I think when you are talking these kind of prices (£250) B-grade is a bit of a risk, maybe worth a punt on cheap deals for old cards that may just be shifting EOL but in the back of my mind if a new card has been returned then I'm always worried that the previous owner found something wrong with it (for whatever reason and not always something that may concern you).

Iv decided just to return and get my money back. Going to go balls out invest in the 7970 lightning since its a totally new system. For whats its worth id probably p*** the extra 200quid away for a few weekends anyway...
Which monitor do you use?
Was going to ask the exact same question. I assume your asking with regards to dual link 120hz etc etc? Weird how such a high end card split the dual link down to 2 single links. At that price its a joke.
Correct. If the OP is gaming at 120hz the he'd be better off with a different custom 7970 as the Lightning hasn't been proven to overclock that much better anyway and the cost of an adapter on top of the card price is quite frankly pretty insulting.
Also agree - it's completely ridiculous to release a card like the Lightning and cripple it with single link DVI.
So far im still only using a Samsung 22" 223cw but i plan on buying a 24/27 at some point soon. Tbh I really like the way the lightning looks compared to the rest and im not too fussed about 2 single links etc. Im also assuming that with it being high quality components it should be less likley to blow up when i actually do overclock it?
Well if you're going to buy a 120hz monitor you should consider something different.
And, in my opinion, if you're going to get a new monitor at some point in the future it should be a 120hz/3D enabled monitor.
No, not really, regarding the blowing up. I'm not sure any 7970 is going to blow up but the higher quality components is more of a marketing gimmick in my eyes. I'm not questioning whether they're using them just what impact they have.

120hz is silky smooth and if you're going to be running a 7970 I would imagine you'll play games that'll take advantage of it

I agree. I went from 60hz to 120hz and the difference was big. a lot smoother.

For expensive components I would avoid b-grade items (unless we are talking about cases,etc).
