B&Q getting too expensive

The one in my city has just closed down.

B&Q made millions out of the DIY fad in the last 90s early 200s inspired by all those design programmes on TV but now people are going back to using flat pack (inspired by Ikea) or buying second hand goods.

The in my city (Oxford) has just closed down. Aylesbury is the nearest one to me now I think.

I heard about this yesterday and I wasn't sure of the truth in it, I'm surprised, that store has been there for years.

A quick google suggests they lost the lease of the building.

On a more serious note.....
Was there yesterday for a couple of things and came out with nothing (due to the prices)

I needed approx 16 Push in Soffit vents (round pieces of plastic - approx 70mm accross). B&Q were looking £5 for 4 of them (so 16 would have cost me £20)

Purchased 25 online for £6.

Bosch Titanium bits... B&Q were looking £7 for 3 of them.

Purchased the exact same pack for £2.99.

There tills have become absolutely terrible recently too (they were bad anyway - when they decided to switch to poorly structured self-service systems) - but as 2 of the 4 self-service tills were down for maintenance problems - the queues were horrendous - and it was one of the reasons I just left without anything.

I worked there when I was at Uni, shame to see it go in that way but hey we're getting a Sainbury's there instead (despite the fact there was a Sainbury's already across the road a few years ago which they closed because it wasn't making enough money).

Joking aside, B&Q are crap anyway, go to a decent builders/timber/deckies merchant any day. Cheaper by a long shot and they do much better materials and tools.

Saying that, stay away from dulux decorator centres unless you want to be fleeced, hard. Their oil based and acrylic gloss/satin/eggshell/ undercoat is crap anyway. Reasonably good trade emulsion but you're better off getting everything from a johnstones dist.

I went in the other day for a 4-way electrical adapter and it was a shocking £17, it's like they want you to go off to eBay.

crazy, i bought one for a couple of quid a while ago from them.

they are erratic in pricing.

i did some decking at the last place. bought the composite black decking. something like £2.50 a plank.

i did half of it then the next day went back to get the rest and it had gone to £12.50 a plank. grrrrrr

all shops like this are expensive, same as Currys and the like. They operate on three assumptions.
People are dumb &/or sometimes you can't wait for delivery so have to pay the obscene prices. Then the third is bulky items that are far to expensive to make postage cost effective and while your buying that, you might as well just buy everything.

But you made a thread about a price error? There's price errors so often, it's not new or abnormal.
