B&Q getting too expensive

Whoever does the stock lists at B&Q stopped paying attention a long time ago.

Flat large washer - pack of 10 - £3.28

Three pounds, twenty eight pence, for a pack of ten soft metal round thingies with hole in the middle? At what point when purchasing or pricing this up did you think it was reasonable?! It costs exactly £0.10 to drill a hole in the middle of ten one pence coins and DIY create ten soft metal round thingies with hole in the middle, don't be ridiculous - £3.28!

That BQ place sucks, rip-off central like the other joke UK hardware chains like Home...whatever.

+1 on using a local traders etc. Despite what people think Ive always found lower prices there and u deal with humans not drones.

Don't mind the likes of B&Q, some of their prices are reasonable enough when they have offers on but it's the convenience as well that you pay for. My local builders yard close around 5pm but my local B&Q is open to 9pm I think it is so it's handy if I need to nip down for something.

Nah, you need some B&Q drill bits at £7, a small desktop vice at £20 and some goggles for £10 before you even start on your 10 pennies ;)

Prices of some of their kit like washers and screws is utterly ridiculous, but then they were cheaper on MK sockets and switches than my local electrical wholesaler. As for paint - I've learnt a good lesson with paint, and that is to pay a lot more for it at a proper decorators place and get decent stuff for a better finish and easier coverage!

I looked around B&Q, Wickes and homebase and after realising they were going to cost a lot more than i wanted to pay, i looked around and finally went today to builder depot.

It was about 1/3rd of the price of the other places and the guy even cut it to size for me for 36p more :p

That really pee's me off with Wickes... I generally remember to take a saw these days, but they absolutely will not cut anything for you, or even loan you a saw for 5 minutes to cut something to size to get in your car for example! Honestly, how much effort or cost would be involved in having a single wood saw handy for customers to use??? (I guess they're worried about being sued if a customer hurts themselves actually)

I avoid all the usual places like wickes, b&q. Everything you see can usually be purchased cheaper from family run businesses if you look on the net

I got shouted at in B&Q for cutting my own bubble wrap to length with scissors I brought with me. They have to do it for me apparently. I would have happily let someone do it for me but the last 3 or 4 times I went in for some, there wasnt a staff member to be seen. I also went in recently to buy lengths of skirting board and they were ALL warped. Not just the style I wanted but every single plank of all their styles.

My dad loves B&Q though, they had an offer on insulation a while back and he cleared the 3 nearest stores of it.

B&Q Bristol (Longwell Green) is a joke, the Wickes next door isn't much better.
I've found Screwfix prices are getting more expensive for some things, & the nearest branch to me stock control is terrible.
My local Tool Station branch isn't too bad, but I was amazed they don't stock the M14 lock nut for a grinder, ended up buying a posh Bosch one off Ebay.

And Bennie-Mac, timber in B&Q/Wickes well it's only fit for firewood, I have a local timber merchant I used, can't fault them, they stock 5.1mtr or sometimes longer lengths of timber, it's straight, & well stored.

Wanted some long lengths mdf skirting, the condition of it in B&Q was bad, found 80mtrs of 5.4mtrs length on Ebay for £25 local.

Another thing in B&Q LWG,Bristol, heavyside is at far end of store, but you can't use the till next to it unless you have a trade account, they expect you the customer to push your trolley half way down the length of the building to the next available general till.

B&Q and Wickes are a ****ing joke.
Screwfix isn't much better to be honest for a lot of things.
Don't even get me started on homebase, that place is well beyond a joke.

All about brewers, travis perkins, jewsons, buildbase. And the independants are usually **** hot as well (they're what I use)
Only thing is some you need to blag being a tradesman to go in, or negotiate their prices down hard.
