B&Q, Wickes or Ikea kitchen?

My chippy has just fitted a lovely Magnet kitchen to his own house, he fits them all the time and has gone off Howdens, he reckons the quality of Howdens is slipping and the cost is increasing but Magnet kitchens he would recommend again and again.

I'd be inclined to take his word for it and that'll be where I get my next, probably on his account for the discount unless Howdens is cheaper.

If you can get Magnet at trade your laughing.

That would be my choice over howdens. But at the time I only had Howdens as a choice

Having looked at B&Q, Ikea and Wickes when we wanted to do ours I decided on Ikea and we are very very happy with it after 2 years. All the cabinets are solid, the drawers come out all the way as standard (I think B&Q wanted extra for these at the time) and with us having an Ikea 15 minutes away it was also handy when my father in law bounced one of the worktops while we were preparing to set the router on it for the joins.

The cabinets go flush to the wall so on the sink one we cut a couple of notches out and on the corner swing out cabinet we had to do the same. Nice big cupboards though.

About 8 months ago we also did my inlaws massive kitchen with Ikea stuff. Again, everyone very pleased with the result.

No one is going to buy from a company who are so desperate for work they are joining random forums to advertise ;).

I have a ridiculously small kitchen (1.8x1.4x1.2m) with some odd features (ie structural protrusions) which would need working around to fit cabinets to a wall.

What kind of kitchen designer should I be going with? I need one who will really think hard about how to make use of every inch in our space, and have access to a huge range of pieces and and implementation options to achieve it.

My gut instinct is that the B&Q, Ikea shops won't have the attention to detail I'm after. What do you think, should I look for something smaller/boutique/independent?
