B3 revision question.

Sorry for the noob question. I have a gigabyte Ud5 motherboard if I swap this for the same board but b3 revision would I need to re-install operating system?

Even though it might be technically possible, It is always best practice to reinstall. I know it is always a pain, but it is better

No you don't need to reinstall the OS in this situation.

I swaped 2 MSI P67 B2 boards for the identical B3 boards.

Just plugged the HDD in and it worked no problem.

Windows will need re-activating though.

no need to re-install - board components are the same.
I simply disconnected my raid array on the marvell sata's. put the new board in and turned on. Drivers for sound etc that on the HDD were reinstalled, restart and raid array was back.
No need to re-instal anything.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread, but i didn't want to start another one about basically the same thing.

I have a Asus P8P67 pro Rev2 (an going to replace it with the Rev3 board, which i am going to sell on), am going to buy a MSI GD65 or GD80 instead.

Question : Can i uninstall the existing m/board drivers from the Asus & reinstall the new m/board drivers from the MSI, would this work as they are both based on the P67 chipset?

Don't want to have to install all my work programs again (around 120gb)

Pretty much guaranteed if you're switching from Asus to MSI you're gonna have to reinstall.

No not really, I would think you will be very unlucky to have problems switching between boards based on the same chipset. Although as others have stated a clean install can be a good idea.

ill share my experiences, swapped the MSI P67A-C45(b2) for the MSI P67A-GD65(b3) and all went fine.

Dont see why mate i have the same board waiting on the B3 being delivered and the c300 128gb and i will be doing a full re-install.

If you're replacing the board with the same, why would it need a full reinstall? Everything installed will work with the newer (same) board...

If changing brands then id be tempted to reinstall, but its probably still not needed.

I went from a Asus P8P67 Deluxe to a UD7 and had to reinstall as it was terribly slow and unstable. Second the OS was reloaded it was all fine.

X Board > X Board = Fine
X Board > Y Board = Reload

I replaced a P8P67 Pro rev 2 with the same board but the B3 rev and although everything worked fine I was forced to activate window os again. Replacing the board was considered as a major hardware change, no wonder people download activated copies..although not my style

Oh dear the lord of the misinformed. You had to activate but even if it was a OEM license you arnt breaking any rules. In a way it is a major hardware change.

The fact that it all activated again shows the system works. it doesn't condone piracy.

I did say it would need activating in post #4.

Well I replaced my B3 MSI P67-GD65 board and everything seemed to work. However, I couldn't get IE9 to install no matter what. In the end, I did a reinstall and now everything works perfectly!
