I've got my companion voucher for this year and am looking at where to go for next year. Does everybody else struggle to get flights to Asia? Nothing available for Taiwan, Japan, South Korea but plenty of flights for places like Thailand, Hong Kong and Shanghai?

I'm looking for March next year but even if I go all the way to May, there is not a single flight available to those three countries

BA doesn't fly to Taiwan or South Korea. Japan is one of if not the most in demand destination for reward flights so you will struggle to find availability. Your best bet is booking 355 days in advance when BA release guaranteed seats

I regularly book HK, Kuala Lumpa and Bangkok

Never failed to get what I want on the 355 day limit, often they are gone within 10 mins though

Assuming you are looking at business class you have left it far too late, you just will have to hope they release more

Second the advice on booking 355 days in advance.

I've booked flights to New York (last year) and Singapore (this October) with a Companion Voucher and just about to pull the trigger on something for next Spring.

The availability on popular routes unless you book at 355 days is, as you've rightly found, none existant.

We were a bit late to the party to getting round to book next years hols but our voucher expires in August so need to get it used by then. I would ordinarily have liked to use the voucher to go to South Africa but would rather not waste the voucher on a trip to SA in their peak winter months so probably going to try and get something in the Carribean (Dom Rep or Jamaica) for mid-May time (still seems to be some availability for Business redemptions).

The other option was to just leave the baby with our parents and go to Vegas next June/July for a week but being sensible has overriden that decision......for now.

That's so weird because on their Exec site they say they DO fly there, but I've never been able to find a ticket so maybe they don't.

Yeah it's annoying because I wanted to book something for March so I could use 5 carry over annual leave days but I only got my companion voucher in May. Oh well I've booked Hong Kong for a week for £200 so cannot complain too much

I got London to Sydney 355 days in advance which is great, but I'm considering whether I want to keep going with this in future. I don't want to plan holidays that far in advance in general. I currently do both Virgin Atlantic and BA. I might go all in on Virgin Atlantic because they at least always have availability, even if the points required can get high. Would be nice if they flew to more destinations.

The voucher CAN open up extra seats that aren’t advertised but you only know if you do a search on the BA site directly using it.

Alternatively, set an alert on SeatSpy and you’ll get emailed if ones open up that match your settings. I’ve had a return flight to the Maldives booked this way - originally done in economy so we had a holiday and could book the resort, then had an alert for any Club World seats that opened up on the same flight. It took a few months of waiting and it was two separate changes and phone calls but eventually got both legs upgraded.

BA will sell you rewards tickets on partner airlines who do fly there - e.g. Qatar, Cathay - which is why the option is there on Exec Club, but that's no use if you're using your companion voucher, as that is only accepted on BA, Iberia and Aer Lingus.

Yeh we've done well out of them so far (with companion vouchers) so wanted to get another long haul in in Business before the sprog turns 2 and we have to start paying more!

That's the going rate for anywhere long haul really, probably pay in the region of 210-220k for places like Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney.

Good value to me, 95000 points and £450 per person for a return business class flight.

I’ll never get enough points for business class, but economy is still a steal! I paid 60,000 and £300 for 2 return economy tickets to South Africa (into Cape Town out of JoBurg) from Edinburgh in July 24 for a flight in November 24.
Paid 50,000 and £200 for return Edinburgh to Dubai in October 23 leaving five weeks later. So, sometimes late availability is possible!
