BAAAADD i7 4770K

your not the only one, mine requires 1.25 for 4.3 and so far i havent been able to get it stable at 4.4, I havent really spent a good day fiddling with everything I could because I've been pretty happy with it at 4.3. 8 pack advised me to go no higher than 1.35 so theres still room to play but i am rather jealous of the guys who hit 4.7 - 8 nicely :)

.... I can see a time when various companies will petition for its removal based on people abusing the spirit of it.
You are looking in the wrong crystal ball. ;) I can almost guarantee it will NEVER happen. Simply because the protection it gives to consumers far, far outweighs the inconvenience experienced by online sellers.

Well .... Im running at 4.4 at 1.360v hitting mid 70's on an H100 cooler. Im happy for it to be running at 4.4 but the voltages are high compared to those I read on here.
The law of averages. If you're so inclined sell it on and take another gamble or be content what is still a very fast CPU; just not as fast as some others but hey...

I'm glad you have such faith in laws in this country being preserved for the benefit of the general public over corporations. I don't share that faith anymore.

I read this whole thread and I am starting to think I made a mistake by planing to upgrade my PC now. At least I didn't do a mistake of buying a 4670k/4770k yet so maybe Haswell Xeon is a better option.

It wouldn't have been a mistake buying a 4670k/4770k mate. Don't read about a few peoples bad luck on poor clockers, which still perform awesomely if they decide to keep it by the way, and let it put you off totally.

this ^

more people post about problems than happy posts. this is why you always see bad things said about HB/IB. people who achieve 4.4-4.8 will be happy and use their computers for what they were bought for.......

Don't agree. They're charging you for nothing. It's similar with internet bandwidth and the whole "Let's charge people for the air they breathe".

They never used to lock chips until they realised there was money in it. Then they start selling it. As such if I was overclocking one I would have expectations of it, given that I had paid for the privilege.

If I went to a high end restaurant and didn't like the food because it didn't meet my expectations I would not pay for it.

restaurant analogy is wrong. What you are doing is in effect paying for a lottery ticket when you buy a K cpu.

If you buy a national lottery ticket and your numbers don't come up, do you take it back to the shop and ask for your £2 back ?

I thought my 4770K was a poor clocker until I realized I needed ring voltage set at 1.15v. After that I could hit 4.6Ghz stable. Worth testing different things out, Haswell isn't as easy as Ivy / Sandy, needs more refining to get it right.
