My last band Broken Daylight broke up at the start of the year and I know there were some people on here who liked the stuff we put up so thought i'd let you all know that i've got a new band together now called Start Static and we've knocked up a quick EP which you can hear here:

You can also download it from there or in a zip file here:

The myspace page is a bit bare at the mo!

Cheers

Sounds good :) Not my exact taste but very talented and a nice sound- I feel the lead singer has a great voice and reminds me a bit of the lead singer of Feeder.

The Rescue
- well suited to your vocalist :) Bridge/solo is a bit too subtle for me. Nice tune but seems to be missing that 'punch' on chorus etc. I am sure that it's there a plenty live though :)

Give me something to believe- not liking this one- felt lame and misses the spark of the first track....

No Matter What - much better- hitting up the pace and much more enjoyable song! :D Great harmonies/overlays- really very effective, notably near the start and finish. :) This would be the single!
Sounds rather like Funeral for a Friend in the Chorus ;) ;)

I've done all that I can
- not sure about this one also. But shows the band's diversity and ability to adapt to different paces- there's one like this on every album :)

Hope you find the above constructive :) Any gigging planned for the immediate future then??

thanks very much for the comments, much appreciated! We were just hanging about thinking of starting a band and thought we'd see if we could write and record an EP in a day and this is what we came out with! Then we thought of a name and stuck it up on the net and that.

That was all written and recorded in one day?

I think the drums need beefing up in places, Often you won't get this unless the studio had great pre's or if you have a lot of time for mixing / editing / replacing drums afterwards.

Guitars sound good, but they need to do a little more in my opinion. Felt to me like there were places the guitarist/s could have 'shown off' a bit more. I'm a guitarist so I guess that's just me (we're natural show offs apparently)

Vocalist has a pretty good voice, but he also needs to be a little more dynamic - he seems to be singing full pelt most of the time.

Songs are well arranged and catchy in places, although not really my thing. The Feeder comparison isn't far off.

Not bad at all overall :)

Thanks for the pointers! Yeah we did it all ourselves in a day so it was never going to be the most amazing thing to invade peoples ears!! The recording quality is about as good as it will get for us as we don't have the money to go into a proper studio and none of us have much skill in that area!

Just discovered this today. "No Matter What" is definitely my favourite track from the EP, in fact I agree with most of what trickyj said. "Give Me Something..." is very weak lyrically (bear in mind this is coming from someone almost solely motivated by melodies/harmonies!) and does actually sound like it was rushed.
