Hello guys!

After putting up with Xbox 360 for the last 5 years and now Xbox One with no strategy or MMORPG on horizon I want to go back to PC gaming again.

I have put together a spec as per below:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £173.99
1 x Crucial M500 240GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - (CT240M500SSD1) £87.98
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02733) £73.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £69.95
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2133HC11ADC01) £59.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £55.99
1 x Zalman Z3-Plus Midi-Tower - Black £39.95
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £10.99
Total : £582.43 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I need advice on what GPU to get and is there something else I could swap MB with, as the current one is out of stock? I would love to have some sort of future upgradeabilty, nothing fancy tho. All other Z97's seem to be around £100 mark and do I even need Z97?

Could I scrimp on cheaper case and cheaper PSU? I would like to keep everything under £700 if possible and proffered GPU brand is NVIDIA but if AMD withing same price that does better I would be happy with AMD.

Many Thanks

Thank you for such quick reply!

I see you included 2 storage drives SSD and HDD, would it not be better and cheaper to have just one larger SSD?

I tend to use the 2nd mechanical drive for storage and programs that I don't use often and the SSD for windows and most common used programs.

I tend to install the game on the mechanical drive mainly due to the amount I have.

Thank you guys.

So is it really worth waiting for Devils Canyon and holding off getting Haswell? Price difference is quite small, is it that much better?

Assuming the ETA is the end of June, there have been a few rumours this has been delayed

I did actually forget about this :p

:D

Thank you guys.

It may only be a smidgy widgy bit better but what's the point in building a new rig and using already outdated parts?

Right, after reading bits and pieces I come up with this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 WindForce 3x OC Rev2 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Black PCB** £175.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £173.99
1 x Crucial M500 240GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - (CT240M500SSD1) £87.98
1 x Gigabyte Z97-HD3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £87.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02733) £73.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £55.99
1 x Zalman Z3-Plus Midi-Tower - Black £39.95
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £10.99
Total : £772.43 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I got to have OS which takes me slightly above my budget and after reading bits and pieces if I can stretch it GTX 760 is much better choice than R9 270X? yes/no?

I take my PSU is enough for this setup?

Many Thanks

Thank you Brit! Swapped it in my cart.
Other than that everything is compatible right?

One more thing, should I throw in better CPU cooler or stick it with stock one? Don't think I will be overcooking it straight away.

Thank you all!

Hey guys,

just wanted to say thank you to OCS and all of you that helped me with my new rig.
All working fine and I am writing this message on it :]
Took me and hour to find out that I needed to switch input on my monitor to HDMI, I defo thought that I received faulty GF Card lol
