Back up / image software

I am after some good software to create a back up image of my C drive incase my system goes belly up,,then i can restore from the back up image.
( except norton ghost ) :D
 
Funny actually i haven't need to restore yet, so i've yet to cross that path :D

I can't see it being that difficult though, its all open standard, there should be a fair amount of stuff out there willing to cooperate...

"Should" be, yeah :o Seriously, if you find one let me know. I couldn't find one anywhere! None of my Linux rescue CDs have that capability either. The makers of DriveImage XML recommend you make a boot CD by basically modifying a Windows CD to make a "Bart PE" cd. Not that easy, especially when you don't HAVE a Windows CD :D

I use True Image and can recommend it. What is the advantage of creating the backup using the bootable CD? I've always created a backup from within Windows and it has always restored fine.

The theory is that, as it is a running system, files may change during the backup, leading to an inconsistent state.

If you don't test your backup image, :mad: is how you will look when you need to restore and.... it doesn't work.

How would you test an image without physically applying it, hence if it didn't work you'd be screwed too? I can browse the image, and everything i'd want it there...
