Back up solutions

Started looking at backing up my data better, I currently have my files/photos stored in Icloud and also have those backed up in Backblaze. Files and photos I value the most, if I wanted to back these up locally as well what are my options.

Ideally, I’d like some simple to maintain/setup and in the future the ability to a run Plex server on it.

Also just realised Backblaze doesn’t backup Icloud files even if they are downloaded to your Mac and you have no exclusions set. @Feek was it you that mentioned you used this? How do you back up all files and Photos?

Glad I check Backblaze as I assumed it would back them up...

I'm sure mine did and it also backed up the contents of my NAS as well. But I dumped Backblaze a couple of years ago so I have no idea what I did, sorry.

Apparently it’s a recent problem judging by Reddit.Do you mind me asking what your solution is now to back up photos & files?

I use Time Machine to a local USB drive and my NAS and Carbon Copy Cloner to a Thunderbolt drive. Nothing away from home any more. Yes, documents and photos are all in iCloud but I don't consider that a backup in the traditional term.

Nope, nothing that complicated.

Time Machine set up with two destinations, a plug in USB drive and my Synology. It automatically alternates between them.
Carbon Copy Cloner set to run a backup in the early hours of the morning. My Mac is never turned on at that time so when I switch it on, the task runs.

Veeam is a good bet, it is easy to use and just works in my experience.

I can't find the community edition for Mac unless I am missing something.

There's probably better ways but Time machine to USB drive and NAS (Synology), then NAS gets backed up to cold storage.
(Files/documents from) Windows systems are also backed up to the NAS but i use SyncBackup on those.

Also periodically make backups of the stupidly important files/documents to other USB drives and store those elsewhere.

You would have to install it on a Windows machine, and then install an agent onto your Mac.
