This as happened to me so many times now over the last year or so I am totally fed up with it...does anyone know what its happening....(and no I am not hot plugging the drives).

Well good old xp ...can't seem to get it working at all under xp...but changed over to Vista and thats picked it up right away....so the drives fine so the OS must be borked somewhere.

Spoke to soon .....stopped working under Vista as well now... :(

Was on the phone yesterday to someone @ Seagate telling him my problems ....didn't fix it and also said it sounds more like a operating system problem than the drive. The last time this happened I formatted XP and it worked ...so I thought *lets try it in another PC* went round to a friends plugged it in and ....same problem wouldn't let me reactivate it at all.

Windows sees it, the BIOS sees it.....I'm using a program now called R-Studio that sees it but...all this does is give me the opportunity to retrieve my files....don't want that I want it reactivating.

Anyone else know of anything I can try to get Windows to reactivate this bloody drive. Also tried diskpart but it won’t put it back online.

Problem fixed

Used Meetsoft Partition Recovery 2.0 and it recovered the whole drive...very happy chappy I am....1st thing I do when back from my holiday is back up this Seagate drive and take it back.

Why was it configured as a dynamic disk? Did you do this for any specific reason? If not just blitz it once you've recovered all your data and configure it as basic disk.

Probably no need to take it back, it'll more than likely work fine as a basic disk which is what it should be.

The drive was off a friend...I didn't notice it was formatted as a dynamic drive till I had quite a lot of stuff on it...so I left it. No worries anymore though it seems to be ok....I will deffo change it to a basic drive when I get another drive.
