Backblaze have updated their reliability stats:

If you look at it "at a glance", then Seagate's reliability has improved massively, although HGST are still the most reliable drives, with Western Digital now the least reliable.

I find their stats difficult to make sense of in a meaningful way - because of the differing times when new drives are added to their stats (e.g. when a lot of drives are initially added, you likely get an amount of failures e.g. DOA drives, after that failures tend to settle down, until they come towards the end of their lifespan e.g. 5 years or so)

Always wondered about these test is it not that HGST is the least popular brand hence more reliable on paper?

Or does it factor into what brand is more popular and sold more ?

Although interestingly my Seagate ST3000DM001 (one of Backblaze's most unreliable drives) at work now appears to have failed spectacularly :)
