background dimming

is there a shortcut or app that dims the background, while leaving one app fully lit. say your using pages to write an essay and the screen around is distracting you, can u make it dim or go black to stop the distractions?

Couldn't you just make the application fullscreen? Haven't heard of anything that will dim out everything but the active application.

The latest version of Pages has what you're after which is called "Full Screen" located on its toolbar :confused:

Yup iWork '09 Pages has a full screen option that leaves you with just the white pages in the centre of the screen.

Otherwise there's also Bean which is an open source word processor that has a full screen option. It'll let you just write without being distracted other than words, sentences and paragraphs.
