so i have no idea here having never really needed to use backups im going to need to do so on my netbook and save money by eliminating the need for an external HDD by simply using partitions and backing up the whole drive onto preferably a dvd.
question is can i do this on an SSD and if the disk fails or breaks can i get it all restored on another SSD including all my partitons with the data safe? thing is what if the original was a 160gb drive split say 80/80GB os/backup and it died and i wanted all my videos back onto say a 320GB SSD(wishful thinking lol)
how would the size work of the partitions when the newer one was obviously bigger? i think i might run into problems with then having to resize them obviously on the bigger drive having more space but then again how would i resize the partitons or make them bigger having all that data still there.would resizing them not ruin performance?
im thinking id of no choice if it happens but to restore it on the bigger new ssd then grab my precious hd videos off the restored partitions then pack it into an external HDD for safe keeping so i can wipe and reformat go about properly splitting the ssd into 2 equal size partitions ready to once again be my combo os storage drive.
phew my heads been spinning with this stuff
and i really hate the thought of getting a £50 external hdd just to make sure my netbook data is safe :/ i thought instead i could just juggle it with partitions and buy an external dvd-rw to store the image of the drives on and get the added bonus of being able to get dvd's into my netbook which the external hdd althought handy cant offer me
